So I can just cut the desired sample in two:
The first version has everything below the high frequencies,
and the second has the high frequencies.
Then I apply saturation only to the second version,
and combine it with the first.
Is this correct?
If it is, what else does the am-pulse has to offer which makes it so expensive?
Is it because it has a great saturation?

Domination is a free VST plugin that has "tunable saturation" It seems to work as an exciter. It also has wave shaping capabilities that you might get out of a compressor. I don't know how it compares to am-pulse, but it should work as an exciter and compressor for the kick. I had to add a +gain stage before -gain after to get the level hot enough for it to work for me.
[edit]I'm going to use something else for the kick[/edit]

Yes. You might not lowpass the original version, and you might highpass the saturated version again, after saturation (and maybe at a different frequency).yonyz wrote:So I can just cut the desired sample in two:

It's an all-in-one HF details processor - transient shaping, HF exciter, and saturation. Each component is designed for this in mind, and there are basically no settings that sound bad. It's also quite simple to use.yonyz wrote:If it is, what else does the am-pulse has to offer which makes it so expensive?

Doing a similar thing with freeware would take two or three plugins. It would be more complex because there are more controls and routing possibilities, and it's more likely that there is a smaller proportion of settings that sound good. Because of all this, it's more fiddly and time-consuming than using a dedicated tool like am-track.
In the case of am-track, the algorithms are not secret. You could probably string together something close enough using freeware. If you buy am-pulse, you are paying for Sascha's time in tuning the algorithms to work well together and to work in a certain way with sounds. It's not a generic sound - this processor has a sound that is designed and unique.
Actually, am-pulse is only available in a bundle and of the three plugins in the bundle (also am-track and am-phibia) I use am-pulse the least. I'm actually surprised I used it here (that kick was difficult I tell you!). I don't think I've used it at all yet on my album that I'm recording this year. By contrast, I use am-phibia on almost every project, and am-track on almost every channel.

You're not alone yonyz. I've got quite a few different revisions of the bass/kick now. It's probably a good thing I don't have anymore time to work on it this week, or Kim would probably want to strangle me for bugging him so much for feedbackyonyz wrote:I have to admit, this kick requires a really hard work.
I'm not even close to the produced sound.
Actually, I've only bugged him a few times so far. Trying not to abuse the privlidge.

The kick is difficult! I can't seem to get the frequency excitation to sound right. Either there is not enough to boost with EQ, or it takes away the articulation, or it just sounds like noise.
I'm going to mess with it for a bit more, but I may end up with something different than Kim has.

I am having the same time with the bass. I can't get the "finger noise" on the high end with various saturators I have tried. Eq does get it some but then my fundamental sounds weak....
I am finding its a lot harder to replicate sounds than I thought!!!
