This track is gorgeous! It's kinda sparse but there is so much detail in the space you created. My only complaint is that I think the clarinet like lead towards the end could use more character (some pitch warble or creative filtering). Other than that, a perfect melancholy track.

Let me be the first to criticize your latest song:

This is indeed pretty, very professional sounding, fit for a movie.
And this is exactly the problem: you've nailed the template of what you were going for so dead-on that this track would never stand out and shine, and it certainly doesn't say "damn, this must be a core track" to me. You're getting too good at this, time to get up off them laurels!

Lush, languid, quite a piece, core! it just sliiiiides. I agree with Justin that a more distinct or cutting horn(?) sound might help add a kind of energy for the ear. Very pretty piece though - and it gells. I particularly like the expressive key playing as the keys go over and back in the overdrive. Great

Seemless, such a nice smooth and thick peice, which disolves into clear space. Like the top of my head is clear and there's this frosted glassy right around my ears.

very nice track
builds nicely and good changes nice beet (the purple beets are the best)

other observations:
I don't care much for the snare sound -maybe could just be lowered in volume, or maybe it seemed so out of place compared to the rest of the track. Perhaps the same could be said for all the percussive sounds.

Thanks Justin! I'm trying to improve my mixes, it's very important for the tunes I've been doing lately because I'm trying to get the vibe across with as little instruments as possible.

My 4 year old PC doesn't cope so well with the newer software I'm using and I don't bounce too much since I only give myself a few hours to work on a track and it just takes too much time. It's starting to get a tad annoying though because I did want to do a little more work on this track but my brain is already on the next track...

Even though it's a bit rough (or, smooth...) around the edges, I'm still pretty pleased with the results. That said, I hear you loud and clear and my head is full of other ideas. I actually started quite a different track before this one, but somehow equanimity came out first...

Thanks ouroboros. I agree with you guys about the horn sounding pad thing but I don't think I'll be changing it as I've gotta move on

What beautiful comments Jazzy, thanks! It's a wonderful thing when people other than your spouse appreciate your music

(I really don't mind, smooth is a positive word for me ^_^)

Thanks for the critique DDK. When doing a track I spend a considerable amount of time on selecting the proper sounds for the beat, especially the snare. Most the percussive sounds in this track are not the ones I started out with, and I changed the kick and snare a few times. I think this is one of those things that you need to step away for a day or so and listen again to see what you did, so I'll do just that
