Just got a report from several Anti Viruses that Izotope Vinyl is possibly infected with Win32.Zlob.bmw virus. Its apparently a trojan Trojan Downloader.

I sent an email to Izotope about this and still waiting to hear back from them.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Thanks

Just to lessen the imminent panic, this kind of situation happens with a certain amount of regularity (and often with silly amounts of hyperbolic outcry and ranting from the usual suspects).

In most cases, it has turned out to have been a false positive, and the fault of the AV suite. Wait for izotope to get back to you, but panic ye not in the meantime.

It is a false positive. I believe this issue has come up on the past (a forum search might yield more info).

If you just absolutely don't want to risk it, you could always just pass on the download to be overly safe.

False positives are more common than you might imagine. Norton AV 2008 is the worst I've seen for this, but they all mistake some benign code for not good code.

Grrreat !

I did a search via the googles and nothing..

Did anyone from Izotope reply to this??

Will do.

Oh and it found the infection in the actual dll itself not the installer. Maybe its activated once after installation?

anti-virus programs are always claiming to have found viruses in .dll files, when they are rarely correct if it's a DLL you actually know what it is (if it's some random DLL hidden away that you didn't download, then go ahead and delete it, but you know full well it's an audio plugin, so why do you care if it sets off a false positive?)

Why do you care what the anti-virus thinks vinyl.dll is just by looking for "warning flags" in the code, when you already KNOW that vinyl.dll is an audio plugin from a reputable company?

Post

Yea ok so lets just jump to the conclusion that its a false positive then .

Comodo gave me dozens of false positives while other anti virus engines didn't with the same files. They have a nice firewall, but their anti virus needs much improvement. I don't know about Ikarus. You can report the result to them and they will very likely fix it in an update.

I never install/use anti-virus software as it more hassle than its worth. Acronis true image backup is what i use and then if something goes wrong it takes me five mins to get back to where i was, just my preference though and along with auslogics boost speed keeps my system pretty healthy. Maybe thats dumb/stupid of me but its worked for ages
