Well, I'm sure the driver is making these problems, i remember, that i installed a plugin ages ago called CamelSpace
Camelaudio, i had the same problem, the gfx was and is very, very slow, i contacted Ben and he mailed me this back and added it into the FAQ...
-----
Displaying the interface really slows down my computer, how can I fix it?
Please update your graphics card drivers, and also update your operating system. If this does not solve the problem, look if there is an option to turn on 'bus mastering' for your graphics card, and if so, enable it. In nearly all cases this solves the problem. If not, try turning down hardware acceleration for your graphics card. Win98 users - we are not officially supporting Windows 98, due to problems it has with 'alpha-blending' - a process used by our graphics library. If you have tried updating your system and the plugins still perform unsatisfactorally, then we regret that we can't help you any further. If however you have a more recent operating system, and updating your graphics drivers and OS hasn't solved the problem, please submit a technical support enquiry giving full details of the your setup and the problems you are experiencing.

Maybe it's a little hint for you, Peter..
And yes, I'm back from vacation and ready to get a reply from my ideas, hehe...

I was having the same problem with RM IV and the Radeon 7500 VGA. Solved it when I bought NVidia 7600GS card. Solved many other problems on that older comp by buying nVidia card, actually. ATi driver is pretty bad and a memory hog compared to NVIdia driver, that's why I always recommend NVidia cards for audio workstations. I have nothing against ATi, but my experiences with their drivers were always bad. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I don't think so, as I'm not the only one who had problems with ATi cards and plugins gfx.

I've just upgraded to RMV and I'm having that same problem.
It takes 10 seconds to drag (for example) the Sustain fader from top to bottom.
When i'm mousing over the GUI i have no problems, but as soon as i mouse over any knob, pad, slider etc - the whole computer slugs to a scary response time.
I never had this problem with any other plugin, and it also happens when RMV is the ONLY thing in the whole project. It does not happen on my laptop but my desktop is my music machine : (
My system...
I have no PCI cards installed and my hard drives are SATA...
:SOFTWARE:
Windows XP Home 2ndEd
Cubase SX3.1.1 w/USB dongle
Live 7.16
:HARDWARE:
P4 3.4 GHZ CPU
3GB Ram
Matrox P650 Graphics card
RME Fireface 400
:USB CONTROLLERS:
AKAI MPD32
Evolution U-Control UC-16
Midiman Oxygen 8
This problem is AWFUL, i was so looking foward to finally get into the v5 features : (

The threads title is RMIV (4!) GUI would be unresponsive. We had a similar issue with RMV though and actually with all our instruments. This is due to the fact that we use the same GUI libraries, including VSTGui in all instruments. It is a very seldom happening issue and usually it vanishes with either updating the graphics cards drivers, OS or with a new graphics card. I'm not suggesting to buy a new gfx card
But we have no idea whats actually causing it as its not reproduceable here.
