And, how do I get my hands on bootcamp without installing Leopard ?

Very good question!, install windows via bootcamp first..and here's the really important bit! - activate the Windows install from WITHIN Parallels (you can set Parallels to use your bootcamp partition as a virtual machine very easily). Otherwise you'll find you have to activate Windows twice due to the virtualization of Parallels.Big Tick wrote:OK then, is there any difference between installing bootcamp first, then parallel, or doing it the other way around ?

Oooh, flamebait!! And I took it.quantize wrote:Of course, whether you or any of the usual dimwits on the KVR forum like it, the cold hard fact is Mac OSX remains (and looks like it will remain for a very long time) the prefered platform of many professionals in the music industry - those most equipped to pay for plugins etc
Yes but mostly they're accountants, not professional muso's or producers...sorry if that hurts the precious feelings, but it's a fact. I like XP and Vista a lot, and use both platforms everyday...but it's just the way it is.TristezaOrange wrote:Windows is "the preferred platform of professionals" too.
Let's try 'a majority' instead...the meaning was clear enough.TristezaOrange wrote: "Many", I may add. So that says absolutely nothing. "Many professionals" use Mac and "many" use PC. What are you trying to say?
Only the blindest of the blind would be unaware that due to the size of the markets (and before you start, that is still completely consistent with what im saying above) there's a massive windows audio warez scene...the mac one pales in comparison.TristezaOrange wrote: Moreover (this sounds like an essay) I like to pay for the stuff I use and I use a PC. I'm a dentist for god's sake and I make music for fun but I still pay for the stuff I use. So, PC-based amateur who still pays for his plugs? It seems that it's a conscience thing, not a heavenly trait bestowed upon someone by Steve Jobs and co.
NP, now that's cleared up (as if) we can both go to sleep again...TristezaOrange wrote: Sorry, couldn't resist. I detest platform wars but it seems like common sense does not apply to these threads.

Oh no, im exposed! I'm not using some scientifically collated research!..just the plain old personal experience of twenty years pretty much making a living recording in bands then working in commercial studios (and no i dont imagine thats necessarily any more valid than anyone else's view, but seems a reasonable experience to make an informed conclusion)..and no I don't pretend that is definitive either, but it certainly seems outstandingly true that macs are really quite dominant in both the graphic design and music businesses. The only time it was any different was earlier on when Atari's and Amiga's were more prevalent.TristezaOrange wrote:
@ you hurt my feelings. You're a cool guy.
Still, I'd like to see numbers. Europe and US. Percentage of pro musicians using PCs and Macs. Then you can go to sleep*.

'Majority' is much better. Again, numbers.
inflame away, this is KVR, IMHO its' the graffiti wall of self important bedroom enthusiasts (not excluding myself there before anyone gets testy!)TristezaOrange wrote: Finally, the 'size of the markets' thing was the paragraph I removed because I supposed would be too inflammatory. Glad you understand why there's not a big warez scene for Macs and for [probably] understanding that if any Mac users were able to crack programs and release them to other Mac users, piracy would be just as widespread (in a percentile sense) to Macs.
*not really, go to sleep whenever you feel like it.![]()
You're right, man. Sorry! Not gonna happen again (well, it is gonna happen again but I'm not going to be the cause of itBig Tick wrote:Please stop the OS war guys. Or go and fight it elsewhere ok ?
