Huh? Either you completely misunderstood me or I simply do not understand anything of what you tried to say above.Uncle E wrote:You're saying his generosity is outweighed by his personality? That's like saying Lincoln's contributions to the black community are meaningless because his intentions for waging the war weren't completely altruistic.bmanic wrote:Respect is earned in how a person behaves, at least in my opinion, not in what he "gives" the community. I can respect Daniel for his work, and I do, very much so in fact! But in this case I cannot respect his behavior, at all.
I'm not judging, just stating my feeling of this situation and any similar ones. I think I clearly said all my words are my opinion only and nothing else.Even with you judging his behavior, it just seems undignified to make such a statement publicly about someone who only gives to us and never takes from us.
Just because somebody gives us gifts or things of "pleasure", they do not get my respect if they behave in a way that disturbs me. Is that really weird of me to feel/be like this? If so, then so be it.. I can't help myself. I wish nothing bad at all for Daniel, on the contrary.
Btw. Christian Budde has given the freeware community pretty damn much as well and has directly influenced other freeware users to release quality stuff (for instance Bootsy gives credit to Christian and several others). Lets not start "ranking" developers and worshiping them, ok?
Cheers!

It's entirely possible that I'm the one confused here. Sorry if that's the case!bmanic wrote:Either you completely misunderstood me or I simply do not understand anything of what you tried to say above.

I think he might be saying that the two things can be judged independently and that, for him, behaviour is more important than generosity. I think that's fair enough. As much as I'd like someone to give me money, I wouldn't call them a saint if they also kicked me in the nuts and then pointed and laughed. (Example based on no real-life situation.)Uncle E wrote:You're saying his generosity is outweighed by his personality? Surely there must be consensus by now...

No its not.Uncle E wrote:What gives you the right to call him out on it? The plug-ins he's given us already are fantastic, that's enough for him to be deserving of our utmost respect.Sickle wrote:Daniel pulls this kinda shit once a year.
When he comes into KVR dangling vaporware getting the poor folk all in a tizzy and then punish them because he's emotionally unstable all he deserves is a kick in the ass. Don't get me wrong here, I haven't used anything of his in at least two years or more; I'm not jaded that he's crawled back into his shell, I'm just amused at how consistently he pulls this act here and how many members here are like, 'oh god, please don't go!'.
Gimme a f**king break, man..

His plugs are awesome, but his demeanor is close to complete shit. At this point, people should be GRATEFUL that his shit is free. I mean, can you imagine what would happen if the stuff was commercial and there was an actual support issue that needed to be addressed?
"Umm..sorry, a kid down the street stole my wiffle bat, I need to be AFK and go eat a bucket of chicken. I think I won't talk to anyone and go code my sequencer. But I'm not mad, m'kay?"
M'kay.

Nearly six years into KVR and the only thing that continues to surprise me is how much the place stays the same.

It seems you're just jealous or something. Why do you care about his personality at all, about people's behavior towards him or about his plugins if you don't even use them? Enough to make up a ridiculously childish quote, post that picture, and contemplate what would happen if. For some reason you seem to have such a huge problem with how long it takes him to release something, his reaction to insulting posts like yours, and others' expectations.

Nope, but I'm jealous of how smart you are.Shy wrote:It seems you're just jealous or something.
Just to clue you in I haven't used any VST/VSTi in over a year aside from some amp sims and Reaktor, so I seriously doubt ddummer's release agenda has much significance to me.

OK, Sickle. I guess you're so miserable you can't help yourself, you have to resort to name calling and slandering. This thread is thoroughly insignificant to you, so please leave it and make everyone happier.

Blame my language barrier for this, because I missed a word here. Add "but his reactions are just childish", and it should sound like it's supposed to.Uncle E wrote:Calling his reactions childish is giving him tons of respect? He's given us a lot and hasn't asked anything in return, we don't have any right to judge his actions.Compyfox wrote:Oh trust us, we give him ton of respect and are thankful for his creations - his reactions are just childish seeing that Christian apologized and withdrew his plugin version.
Actually Daniel asked for something in return - respect (which he got) and small donations (which some of us give). He created something for the public, that some of us use on a regular basis, so we are somehow allowed to judge his actions. Same would apply to gamers who judge gamefirms about buggy releases, or promised releases that never happened - why should TbT be any different?
Daniel created something that he released to the public. Since his stuff is popular, one can at least ask for some sort of support. Else you shouldn't create anything that others can use, unless you clearly wrote down on the page "this stuff is as is, I made it as test, don't expect any support" - which isn't.Uncle E wrote:What gives us the right to ask for anything at all?I mean, we users don't ask for much, do we?
Daniel should have done it like DiscoDSP or Musiclab - keep his cool down and block every question regarding new toys. Therefore he wouldn't have fueled the flames or geared up his fans - which goes out of hand at some place.
Then again, Daniel went all haywire about something, that only lasted one friggin day. It's not like with Digital Fishphones, where Urs Heckmann is still being interpreted as "creator" of the FishFilets - barely anybody got it what went on in here. So instead of letting it rest, it's digged out again over and over.
And on top of that, Daniel is like a child "you stole my idea", even though it was only a skin-job and the plugin didn't even work the same! Again it was one day only where this drama happened, no backtraces anymore. So I don't really get the big deal compared to other firms.
So if you still think I am wrong, go ahead. I'm just stating my 2c as yearlong TbT user. And I still want an engine update for at least TLs Maximizer, but I don't see a reason in donating something, that'll never see the light of a recompile.
I'm out of here, discussions are going out of hand and straight into the next nearest wall. I'm sure it's not long before a lock either. So yeah.
