There's something in this song that sounds terribly familiar to me. could it really be a frog call sample I've found online? I honestly don't know. The whole song sounds Khmer/Burmese to me somehow. I like

don't know what to tell ya, runny... this particular sample was recorded by me with my trusty R09 at the Atlanta Botanical Garden's Orchid house last year. there are several of these little frogs that are loose in there and they are LOUD (and very very small
)
thanks for listening and glad ya like!

It'd be cool if you could hook grain delay right onto their little heads, like a snowcap with a DSP chip, right there in the Orchid House!

Very nice! It's so much fun to just play with little noises like this in simpler! Honestly, I think I use that more than any other sampler.

yesssss! ya know I laughed out loud when i read this... reminded me of the videos I saw some years ago when somebody thought it was a good idea to afix a camera to the heads of various animals and let'em run about (...as if they'd be treated no different by their kinrunagate wrote:It'd be cool if you could hook grain delay right onto their little heads, like a snowcap with a DSP chip, right there in the Orchid House!
but the idea of DSP built in to process the peeper frogs: hilariously awesome.
ya know... I've been on the fence about purchasing "sampler" of that very reason: I already have Kontakt2 and simpler is sooooo kik ass already- I really don't know if the "gap" that may be missing between Kontakt and simpler really merits another sampler purchase. and yeah- I use simpler WAY more than Kontakt these daysjustin3am wrote:Very nice! I only use sampler as like a wave table synth... you can't automate the loop points without assigning them to a midi controller but they can be assigned to LFOs and envelopes. It has an FM/AM oscillator that can either track key position or it can run free. It's got this morphable (think Z-Plane) filter and some really flexible envelopes. It could be improved in many ways (considering the price) but it's a very useful tool (considering the price I got it for).
I think it would be really cool if they implemented their warping scheme into the Sampler and then provided the position of the warp markers as modulation destinations.

You guys I been playing with what the GUI says is called "Derelic2" VST.
You got that one blortblort? It's a nice little sample looper VST, simple and glitchy.

Très cool track, and a great idea for the sound source! I love the way the stereo tracks cycle, in fact I've always had a fascination for patterns like that. The lead is great too, quirky and touching.

@justin - I've been using Disturbance to do that sort of wave table scanning. Nearly as light on CPU as simpler and a good bit more cheaper than Sampler
but the niceties you mention 'bout the filter and envelopes still have my attention. maybe Christmas for Sampler...
@runagate- could seem to find any derelic2 vst out there on teh interweb...where did *you* get that one?
@polyslax- it's way to presumptuous for me to compare this to Reich's work, but his ideas and music have influenced me...like the way the "stereo" part of this piece works. Very Very easy concept. In simpler, I held down and repeated a 1,5,1 chord and made a slight adjustment on simplers "spread" setting. this set up the repetitions of the sample to slowly go in and out of sync...the same way ya might observe turn signal lights while waiting at an intersection... or the beat of wipers in (and out of...) time with music on the radio. I KNOW I'm preaching to the converted here, but I love that stuff.

Ok, yer freaking me out a bit, cause I was actually going to mention turn signals... I'm always looking out for those things, both audio and visual cyclical patterns...blortblort wrote:the same way ya might observe turn signal lights while waiting at an intersection... or the beat of wipers in (and out of...) time with music on the radio. I have no idea, and it has the "gray skin" prefab that someone distributed for SynthEdit long, long ago so no clues there.
The GUI says "derelic2" but I suspect that it's derelict, and I couldn't turn up either on google.
I think it may have been made by the same cat that made Mor-oder VST, but you know me and names. I can't find that cat's site anywhere anymore, either.
It's a small gray GUI, the lower portion has a sample loading folder button and way-too-small filename area for the sample. Good clean stretchy fun played with a keyboard, though.
Damn, I wish we could get our shit together and have an "abandonware license provision" and a "dead VST archive" website. SO many great tools being lost that needn't be.

@poly- I'm sure we were separated at birth
@runny- I've put the word out in query about this one on a resurrection thread in the instruments forum
we'll see if anyone there knows any more about this one than us!

btw, if ya haven't checked that thread , there is a fuggin plethora of "lost" music stuff there, much approved even by the original developers if we can track them down.
