Just purchased Cameleon5000 for the $125 deal, so I get Alchemy for $125 when it's released :)

The way I see it, I pre-purchased Alchemy, and got something to play with now....for free!

Looking forward to it's release, a big 'thank you' to Camel Audio, a real bargain.

Wow crossgrade prices cool - thanks (this is the only Camel product I don't have :))

just one question - is Alchemy going to supersede Cameleon in the same way that Omnisphere supersedes Atmosphere or is Cameleon still due for an update too at some point? No pressure - just asking as it would be nice if it was still going to be developed as well (mainly still hoping for higher resolution resynthesis).

Any plans for RTAS?

Why is everything about "mine is better than yours?" Can't these both be great in their own niches? Are we 4 years old in our sandboxes?

A rival product does not mean better. Just similar in features, or scope of functionality offered. A competitive product.

Not sure why you assumed I meant one is better than the other. I even started a thread to compare the two, again a simple comparison of the two asking which one KVR members prefer with an option to vote for both. A totally harmless discussion, discussing the excellent new VSTi choices we have, just like this thread.

There is no blanket question for the poll, like which is better? Which would be asking users to comment on behalf of everyone. The focus is on which a user prefers for their own needs.

It's a really great time for those interested in synths...I see no harm in calling Alchemy a rival to Omnisphere. IMO it most certainly is. :)

1) Nice, simple copy protection that'll let me install it on more than 1 machine (I work on 3 machines at 3 different sites, but never simultanously).
Yep - no problem. Copy protection is via keyfile personalised to your particular details.
2) With Cameleon, you created a user-friendly, simple interface. If this doesn't overwhelm me with multi-point envelopes for every tiny, picayune parameter change then you have my money, day 1.
We've tried very hard to make Alchemy work on many different levels. At the simplest level, you can browse the presets and use the performance controls which are assigned to the most tweakable parameters for the given sound. If you want to go a little deeper, you have immediate access to most important parameters for all four sources, along with filters and master parameters. There are then two further levels of detail you can look at. So Alchemy is good for both preset tweakers and people who want to get into detail. We'll explain more about this in upcoming videos.
The 16 performance controls should make this very usable in NI KORE (though I hope the patch format is compatible this time)
The performance controls are really cool - you can actually do a lot of the stuff you use KORE for, right within Alchemy. Presets are set up with performance parameters for easy tweaking. The knobs can even work like four way switches or whatever you like, thanks to the flexible modulation system. You can also morph between multiple sets of performance parameters. Regarding the patch format, we went with our own dedicated text based patch format - it has a lot of advantages in terms of making the presets open, and editable by other applications. We've tried to make everything as open as possible, as some of the utiliies that were released for Cameleon made a big difference to the functionality, and we want to encourage the same kind of thing with Alchemy. Urs has a similar kind of text based format, and also supports fxp as an option, so I'm definitely happy to look at including such an option in the future.

Cool - thanks for buying it, and I'm glad you like the deal. Our cunning plan is working
I can't get the video to play either. I am on Safari 3.2. I tried the original link at beginning of the thread...
Sorry about that - I just tested in Safari and can confirm that the video player doesn't work. We'll aim to fix it early next week.
ben said somewhere that he contacted the authors and got clearance to use the name...
Yeah - we contacted the company who bought the company that made Audio Alchemy, and they were really cool about it and gave us their permission in writing, so we have no worries on the name front.

Alchemy will supersede Cameleon, however we'll keep supporting Cameleon on new platforms for the forseeable future - it just won't get new features. I think you will be happy with the additive resynthesis quality in Alchemy :)
Any plans for RTAS?
It won't be available at launch, but it's certainly something we'd like to do in the future.

Thanks for all the positive feedback :D

The one I'm thinking of is Passport Designs Alchemy 3, not "Audio Alchemy", unless we're using different names for the same product. But as you can see from this link, it has long been discontinued. http://www.midi-classics.com/p1353.htm

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need to go purchase Cameleon. :hihi:

We just posted another demo on the web page to demonstrate the quality of the resynthesis and the ways its possible to manipulate sounds with Alchemy. Mostly its manipulation of speech, but we also show the resynthesis quality of various instruments. As far as I know (but please correct me if I'm wrong), no other softsynth is capable of all this stuff:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks to Biomechanoid for putting together the demo and to Caz for providing the speech.

Ah - yes, you're right - my memory is a bit poor

Anyway, I'll be interested to hear some comments on the demo above.

can you not resynthsize the vox into English? :hihi:

BTW, great demo of the vox stuff 8)

i dont really get too excited about new stuff, but this sounds like something i can really get into....looking forward to the demo.

Ben, so this thing contains 600 partials, and an additional noise source with up to 250 partials? Or am I misunderstanding.

I can say one thing, I haven't seen a single additive synth with resynthesis that sounds as accurate as the demo you just posted. And with 600 partials, is there even another synth with that number available? I know Cube has 512, Morphine has 128, Cameleon had 64, don't remember what the DiscoDSP synth had, but it was less than Cube, IIRC.

Anyways, very impressive to say the least. Thanks for the teaser.

What are the limits on multi-sampling and resynthesis with Alchemy? Eg can you build something with multiple samples over the range and also multiple velocity layers and apply resynthesis to the whole set to generate a patch?
