I was trying to avoid posting on this thread, as its rather adversarial, and as I mentioned before I have the greatest of respect for Eric, Glenn and Spectrasonics and have no doubt that with Erics amazing sound design track record Omnisphere will be excellent. The two synths really are very different and I think they'll compliment one another very well ... anyway, hopefully thats clear and I can now clarify something about the last post.
It is cool, but waveshapers in filter section is not the perfect idea. It will bring some restriction in sound design. I thought, that there could be created serial chain(not less than three) of waveshapers to get cool sounds. If two slots will be reserved for waveshapers, then you stay without filters. I think, that best place for waveshapers could be in LFO-Envelope section. Just my 2 cents.
Each of the four sources has three filters which can be run in parallel or serial, in addition to the two main filters - so you can achieve what you want just fine. There's also a filter capable of waveshaping, plus two individual distortion units capable of waveshaping in the FX rack, so you can apply it there if you prefer. The thing I think is coolest about Alchemy is its resynthesis engines though. If you want to do standard VA synthesis with with waveshaping, you have plenty of options.

We just posted another demo on the web page to demonstrate the quality of the resynthesis and the ways its possible to manipulate sounds with Alchemy. Mostly its manipulation of speech, but we also show the resynthesis quality of various instruments. As far as I know (but please correct me if I'm wrong), no other softsynth is capable of all this stuff:

Thank you, and it's perfect!

Yep, that resynth stuff is pretty cool.

How did you get her to sound like she came from ireland? :hihi:
You do have something unique.

Yes - you won't run out of filters in a patch, that's for sure... ;)

And the modulation implementation is pretty sexy, too...

Hi Ben,

I'm really sorry you felt the need to avoid posting here. :(

As I stated in my first post I think both are super synths and simply wanted to see what others thought..."rather adversarial" sounds quite agressive and is 100% not the tone I wanted to set for this thread. I have gone to great lengths to avoid just that (from anyone) surfacing in this thread a few times and succeeded.

Having said that I can see how a threads title can be perceived the wrong way. I have seen many "Vs" threads that have provided some great info for me that has helepd me decide on a product or not.

Clearly the level of interest in Alchemy and Omni perhaps means that a VS thread in this case is not so good an idea or at least the thread title I picked should be changed. So it will be.

Apologies to you and Eric for starting a thread about your products that both of you might now find difficult to post to or want to avoid. Quite the opposite was my intention.

I am a Spectrasonics customer and Camel Audio customer so there is no hidden, or negative motive behind the creation of this thread on my part.

I am quite happy if Meffy thinks this thread is problematic for him to lock it if need be and to keep all the Alchemy info on one single thread...the one you (Ben) started on the Instruments forum or elsewhere.

I have *no* interest in Product wars or death matches. I completely agree that Alchemy and Omni can complement each other and judging by the poll many other KVR members agree.

For starters the thread title will be changed...HTH :)

The spec and capabilities of Alchemy looks quite appealing. I don't know what it is I react to exactly about the sound reproduction...I get a sense of lack of dimension in the sonic quality and if that is due to host, sample, mp3 or whatever, I don't know. It reminds me of the early sample CD's from E-lab sonically. Will have to take a closer look at it.

I'd like to thank Ben and the team not only for a great new synth but also for what seems to be outstanding value for money, the upgrade from Cameleon is a no brainer for me, but I also have CamelPhat and CamelSpace and see anyone with just one of those plugs will also get a discount which is a great way to thank fans for their support

Thanks Lads. 8)

@cmm: No, I've no trouble with the thread. It's remained for the most part friendly, constructive, informative. Though I wouldn't have asked you to edit it I do appreciate the change of subject line.

There probably are enough Omnichemy and Alsphere threads for a while. But the superfluous ones are settling down and fading, as is usually the case. So carry on.

and was it?
An idiot on Set Theory:

Just listened to the demo...Wow! There is some seriously clever stuff on offer here. Very clever and creative delivery. :D

I just listened to that resynthesis for the second time. Very impressive. Alchemy just went onto my buy list. Only thing on there actually... no that is not true... I want to buy AAP also :-)

Chameleon never quite did it for me. The resynthesis just wasn't quite there, but Alchemy looks like the next generation has arrived. Look forward to trying it out myself on my own samples...
