Its those beats! The sectret is not to how well it is mixed, but to how those beats are made.
That simple drum beat is what really gets to people. Its just addictive and attractive. The samples and melodies are really good, too. They are just really creative and attractive as well.

But it does sound like they were drunk while were mixing.

Personally I do like Justice, I just wish they didn't compress everything so much. Then again it's all written to sound good played really loud, they're like the stadium rockers of dance music. Their live show looks fantastic and usually sounds great too.
Still love hearing Waters of Nazareth when I'm out :love:

I like their instrumental tracks, but the singers...how much do they drink before they start singing? :D

Really now, D.A.N.C.E hurts my ears. Great tune and instrumentals...but why....just....WHY?

To be honest, I really only like the DANCE song. It has really a great vibe and actually a kinda cool sound (if it was mixed better, it'd be perfect on its own).

But I also heard the rest of their cross album and was a) bored and b) stressed by the bad sound.

Oberheim DX Samples
E-mu SP-1200 Samples
Reason Samples
synthesizers: The Oddity-(Let There Be Light "The end part")
CS-80v-(Harpsichord used in D.A.N.C.E)
Electric Piano: Reason ElectroMechanical (Clavinet sound with reason distortion unit scream in warp mode most of the time)
Fender Rhodes Mark I (Let There Be Light "The end part")
Piano: Reason Pianos (specially Yamaha C7)
Sample cds: Bass legends cd.vol 1 (the bass is combined with reason Scream Module)
Roots to Disco (most strings)

Reverb:
RV7000-(mostly)"

Allot has been sampled from old records, and here and there Glitch VST.

Not sure, but i have tested and played these instruments and samples, and they sound very close. Lot of compression and production tricks are also needed to make it just right.

any one has more knowledge of what they use?

:)

interesting.... and it looks like youre quoting an article or something but i'm pretty sure some of that information is wrong

anyway they also have used juno 106 and tons of garageband samples (but you already knew that)

Just found this thought you guys might find it useful

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/news/news ... 2B19thSept

Equipment used by Justice in their productions include:

* An Apogee Ensemble Recording Interface
* A Power Mac G5
* GarageBand software
* Cubase SX
* Neve Preamp (on some vocals)
* For monitors, Altec iPod speakers and a Bose radio alarm clock

Well, thats a little help on what they use. It seems there setup is actually really basic. They actually used what I am using now: an interface, some recording programs, a mic, and some cheap speakers, lol.
They have got to be using some other things though, garageband and cubase cant possibly give them that sound plain. They must be using some VSTs.

What on earth do Justice and Sebastian use to get that bass synth sound?????

Sometimes it sounds like it could be just a synth, other times maybe a bass plug-in???

Sometimes it even sounds like a slap bass (middle of phantom pt. 2).

Examples: Middle of phantom pt. 2, DVNO solo, end of stress live, DANCE, basically all their songs

Living proof that someone can actually make the same music. Ok man, tell us how you did it? We are sitting here trying to make that same thing.

its all about signal flow and proper usage of side chain compression (and not just in the Benny Benassi electro house style that most ppl think of when anyone says side chain compression)

but what about those samples?

cheers

Being more of a drum person, I believe I can help with the basic structure of some of their drum beats.
Here's one example I made a couple days ago after reading this thread. I think it went something like:
----S-------S---
K------K-K---K-

Or something rather. A couple 'off beat' kicks here and there incase that helps any. The distorted bass "RRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrr" can be done very simply. Just overdrive a roughish sawbass with a high sustain and do a long note.
GENERATION 30: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
