why have half gui space wasted on some cream plastic panel?
i would crop the cream off and basically just have the 2d sliders tabbed gui....same as gstos basically but tabbed.
If I crop out the "cream" the skin will be too small and compact for my taste, gsoto already made a theme like that and from what I can tell (by reading) aciddose is trying to implement it.
I can cut away a few pixels at the bottom if the size is too big (720x528px)
but will not remove the "wasted" spaces in the top part.
I really like the look of the cream/blueberry skin. Lovely color schemes and nicely organized.

For my tastes, the gui looked like it wanted to be tightened up a tad, so I clicked around in Photoshop a bit. I hope you don't mind. =]

No, I don't mind you playing around with it. I've actually made similar changes as you have and also made the skin ~150px thinner.
I'm also in the process of making the "sliders" as high as the dropdown menus.

Whoa, thanks for the support :D

Limeflavour, that cream mockup is looking very purty :tu:.
One thing that I personally don't like about either the old or the new version is the placement of the mixer. I think that it doesn't reflect the fact that it comes before the filter in the signal chain.
I'm looking forward to your progress.

About my GUI, this mockup looks quite busy to me already. As I said, the design has evolved since then; I have a newer version on the same line that looks maybe less geeky, but more tidy, with cleaner separations between the sections, etc.
I really want to implement it, but did I mention that I'm pretty busy right now? :P
Regarding the size, my idea is to make the code parameterizable to some extent, so I can change numbers and make different sizes easily. I'm already convinced that I can't satisfy everyone with only one size.

thanks gsoto :)
The mixer part is going to be moved to the filter page, I also save some screenspace by doing that.

i'd like to let everyone who doesn't already know, know that i don't "do" GUIs. i only wrote the limeflavour one because it was easy and i wanted to demonstrate that it's easy for you to do it yourselves.

i'll implement gsoto's older design for the same purpose, but i have absolutely no plans to modify, maintain or otherwise invest any time in any GUI implementation.

if you have requests, address them to the author, not to me. for limeflavour's design, talk to him. for gsoto's design, ask him. if you think you know someone who could implement a GUI, tell them about XGDB and link them to this thread and the xhip.cjb.net site.

please do not make suggestions or requests addressed to me unless they're technical requests about the code or the synth core (bug reports) - not the gui designs, plugins or other bits that i have absolutely no desire for involvement with.

i'll be posting the source for the updated gui code library and the code of all four (gen, standard, limeflavour, gsoto) plugins so far created as examples in the next few days.

i'm very helpful if you're a coder who needs help with implementation. for example if gsoto needs suggestions or needs someone to implement some code that is beyond his skill level i'll gladly do that. i won't however replace coordinates or colors inside a gui implementation when the implementation and instructions are available for everyone to do this themselves.

AD just make gsto gui 10% or 15% larger pls. thanks.
that was my fnal word about the gui as to me that proto3 design is otherwise perfect and probably the best interface of any synth out there.

You prefer knobs for readability or mouse interaction?

The ones in my design are not sliders in the typical sense. Actually they are knobs... Digital knobs :hihi:. Just passed through a polar to Cartesian transformation :P.
_starcraft_ wrote:those sliders i would say are a fine size for use on umpc and touchscreen/stylo action....gstos are a bit too small (although stretched at 800x600 they are ok))
Too small to read or to click/interact?

BTW, maybe it's time to start a new thread :hihi:

both.
everything needs to be slightly bigger to be usable on small screens.
at present size cant be read and cant be intercated with (unless u r a godlike micro surgeon)
if u look at limeflavours sliders and font those are a decent size..i can read and interact with those no problem.

i resized your gui to 800x600....at that size then it would be perfectly usable.

that isn't my business.

please make the bank give me free money.

easier to use and they look better IMO, personal prefs ;)

Quality knobs, mind.

im pretty sure they are not, but if they are, its for two reasons...

1. ive only been making my own knobs for a short while, and didnt like the ones i had to choose from before, that other ppl had made

2. the synth was so big sliders were the only way to get all the stuff on the gui.

also, i only use one synth ive made anyway...

I'm pretty sure a knob takes less space than a slider (a knob could be 9 pixels square (hell, 1!) and still have more mouse-resolution than a slider). Or do you just do whatever's easiest and claim that's what you meant to do?

"XHip: the problems are YOUR fault! (256 value data entry not withstanding)" -- I'd suggest this as a slogan.

...getting what you pay for... laaaala... what you pay for... ooohyeah...

So getting banned x times (how many times is it again ?) was'nt enough ? Still needs another one ? Sour grapes ?

yes, a 1 pixel knob is really useful

im not talking about mouse resolution, im talking about actual screen estate...

then again, im not gonna take advice from someone who has made one of the worst GUI's in the history of VST's.

anyway, enough of this guff, back to xhip guff.
