Hello!

Is there a chord detection software or VST-PlugIn existing?

I know that Cubase that Cubase can do this, only for already recorded midi notes and not for realtime played chords though.

But since I switched to Ableton Live, I need another software, that can detect and display the played chords.

Anny recommendations?

I strongly recommend you learn to do this all by yourself

That is probably the best advise - but I have to be realistic.
I dont think I'll ever learn the complete music theory by myself.
I've tried, but I failed

nonetheless I still have not given up

And that is the reason why I am am looking for some chord detection software.
Hope it will make it a little bit easier.

Its not very difficult but you need to spend some time in preparation. get a list of all common chords and write them out in the form 1, 3rd, 5th ,7th etc as appropriate in a long chart like a spreadsheet. Start Maj, Minor, Maj 7, Nat 7, min 7 etc. You could name the intervals up the side then run the chords across the top and fill in the squares for the chord, it will only take an hour or so, then take the chord you need to analyse, write out the intervals and check it against your chart. In no time at all you'll be able to do this without looking at the chart. Its only the really weird chords (13b9b5 no third) that are hard to figure and these can often represent more than one chord any way. eg Am7 = C6 depending on context. Remember the root is usually in the bass. Once you get going it gets easier

Doesn't mean you gotta have tons o' theory, it's just that you really can develop your ear.

Crutches, are a pet peeve of mine. It kind of obviates your own ear to have a machine automatically give you it.

Thanks for your advices - I won't give up to expand my skills and will try it again...and again...and again...

Will take a short look on Tonespace though. Maybe it gives me some useful hints for better understandig the whole complex.
