I'm quite convinced that we'll not see a DC for 2008. We could have one if we quickstart it up right now, but the problem is that then we'll have to possibly avoid a DC09. If we start it up now we could set the deadline to 31st January, vote in February, and prize delivery in March. Lay low 3-4 months and then bash out '09 in mid July 09.

In my opinion we should go for a quickstart right away. All days counts down to newyear. The majority of the prizes has been delivered allready, so I cannot see any valid reason why on earth we are still waiting. I wrote the same in early September, and did something happen? Nah can't say it did. I am waiting as well as the rest of the developers. So let me end by saying

Go DC go!

just out of interest, how long exactly did it take from comp ending to prize delivery of last one?

it's still going. i'd say about a year with the 9-10 month delay that i caused. otherwise only a couple of months via meffy's method.

i guess the dc could start in 08 but the submissions won't get in until 09. maybe dc 08 1/2.

If I'm the one who does the prize distribution next time, I'll have to have a shorter time window for each of the winners to pick up their prizes. Shouldn't be as hard since it'll be right after the competition so entrants will still be around paying attention.

I know it's selfish, but I'd prefer a fallow year and come back with an astonishing DC09. If DC08 started today, there's no way I could get anything enterable even by Jan. However, if we started in Jan/Feb, with close of play end of April, then GAME ON!

It could be called DC09 with a deadline for entry in 2009, but still announce the rules now. That gives devs the time to plan and start work on something now but no admin as such for KVR until 09 except for setting the rules

Seconded, makes a lot more sense than trying to shoehorn a contest into what's left of 2008.
