Is there some sort of a formula for writing those generic semi-catchy trance leads, because EVERYONE seems to be able to write them with moderate ease.

Not that I know of, but I do recall a thread about "catchyness" and how a song is more catchy if you can easily hum/sing/recognise the tune, maybe that's what you should be aiming towards?

That's all there is to it really.

Play out some chords that sound nice with a pad or string. Swap it out for your trance lead. Chop it up into a gated design using notes with a length of 12 and 36 or 20 and 44 so it is more gated than using a full note. Chords are key.
GENERATION 30: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
