I've been into chromatic harmonicas a lot lately--amazing guys like Toots Thielemans, Larry Adler...etc. To me that chromatic style is a lot more melodic and beautiful than diatonic (usually associated with blues, rock, folk), but diatonics do have that bluesy gritty quality that's unique.
