i just wanted to add, the reason i'm coming after you like this is because i want to hear some of sylenth and you were talking it up big time and talking other people's opinions down. i assumed you were really into it and maybe knew something about it but now i'm just uncertain if you even use it very often.

i'm a synth guy, i love synthesizers. i love instruments. i love sounds, period. if somebody says "hey i've got this pipe that sounds so sweet when you knock on it" i'm into that, i'll want to sample it and figure out what makes it good. it's really upsetting to have somebody say how great something is and then back off and kind of drop the ball when i pop up my head and ask for a listen. should i have even bothered to become interested in this?

I don't think CronoX3 gets the props it deserves. Seriously, I'd take CronoX over Sylenth anyday without question. I personally didn't find much use for Massive, but it sounds WONDERFUL. pretty much agree with all of this. And Nexus sounds better than sylenth by a mile. I know refx is hated here but it's the truth. I have no reason to lie.
Nexus is a Sample based Rompler not a Synth. You could download a bunch of Free samples from http://www.Soundsnap.com and get better sounds than Nexus. If you want to go the Sample based route that is but were talking Synthesis here fellas. I wouldn't be surprised if the sound-designers over at reFX have Sampled Sylenth1 for some of the samples in one of their Expansion Sets.

you know and I know that Nexus is more than a simple Rompler, at least I know it

I am sure those samples must really blow away sylenth1 because I know for a a fact Nexus does and you say those are better than Nexus.

Going by your sig I would say you are a tad biased though, I am not I just go by what I hear and report the truth.

Back WHAT up with an audio sample. Can you read? I explicitly stated that I don't think that there is a best-sounding synth, so what would I post? I also clearly indicated that I wouldn't expect everyone to agree with me if I did, so what would be the point of posting a sample? And, moreover, what the hell does my opinion have to do with "guts"? If I did post a sample, I'd at least have the "guts" to post my own original composition. Because it is really two powerful synths in one, A&B, and each one of those A&B channels have layered, arps, and effects, that can be tuned/detuned, or synced in or out. Then you have the controls, so say Aftertouch can change the phase&LFO of synth A, while also changing the Freq&OSC of synth B, or whatever you like. I did some subtle stuff with ARP's A&B moving around each other, little bit of Velocity and it is intense, some After Touch it goes warped, lots of After touch it goes mental.

wait. the center bit is diff for a and b? this is new or has always been? i dont use "B" much but knowing this i might. i never need "B" really, the sound is so good i just stop tweaking when "A" is done

i'd have to agree though, this does sound exactly like synth1, only with some sort of stereo phaser effect over every demo. were you using a stereo expander of some sort, or does it always have this irritating effect on it?

i did however find that in example3 the filter sounded quite ok, but then it sounded absolutely terrible (again, like synth1) in example10.

it would be easier to judge without the reverb and stereo expander over the top.

I must admit imho there are better synth if you are looking for analogue emulation. VAZ, all Gforce VSTI, Tera, xship ...
Sylenth1 sounds very good but when you stack 30 osc together (like most preset on Sylenth1) the sound is going to be big thats for sure. Call me a purist but when i am testing a Synth for sound quality its a simple patch no unison or FX so i can listen to the raw OSC and filters. Sylenth1 is good but try it with a simple patch 3 osc and no fx, its good but not that good.
I guess if you are into trance and looking for those big supersaw Sylenth1 do the job very well but i am more into raw classic analogue sounds.

Not true - I've heard from many legitimate sources (i.e., Sylenth1 fanboys) that Dave Smith and Bob Moog actually spent the better parts of their careers competing to see who could come closest to achieving that "Sylenth1 sound", the holy grail of all synthesizers.

Yeah, I had exactly the same experience. In some situations the filter works quite well but in others it is bloody awful. I'm not sure why it is so inconsistent but it makes it very, very hard to work with. Overall I wasn't impressed at all and I think that there are plenty of freebies that can sound as good without needing four oscillators to do it. Its probably not really as bad as Synth1, although I think I could probably get more usable sounds from Synth1 than Sylenth1 and usability matters. It is also ridiculously overpriced, which is possibly why people feel the need to defend their decision to throw that money away. I mean, when you can get PolyIblit for free or buy Wasp for $29, why on Earth would you pay a couple of hundred for this?

Does any other VST sound as good as Sylenth?
