yeah, my opinion is definitely the same with these patches at least. the oscillators and filter sound sub-par, like average quality vst stuff. it definitely doesn't sound analog for sure - if somebody wants to argue that point by all means, just please mention which "analog" synth sounds like that before you start talking.

what it does have though is: lots of oscillators and waveforms (some kind of stereo unison?) which would quickly impress people who want those types of sounds. it's just really, really weird to call that "analog" though since no analog synthesizer ever, ever, ever had that feature or ever will.

the nearest thing would be something like the korg mono-poly and if you compare the two it's just.. yikes.

everything i've already said was accurate, the filter sounds pretty bad and doesn't seem to have any real features. it's obvious when most of the patches don't even use the filter, the patch programmers are obviously not motivated to use it. almost every patch uses some kind of stereo unison "spread" feature, so this is obviously the core of the synth. with that, i'm immediately really not impressed at all and my hope for the synth drops off to nothing.

What "features" do you expect from a filter?
Normally a filter has a frequency and a Q to set up .. and I personally don't need more than that. The Sylenth1 filter has a distortion-feature though.

And saying it sounds pretty bad is just ridiculous. For the sounds this synth is mainly used, it's actually the filter, which has really a great response to get VERY FAST, what you expect.
And I don't know what's up with your ears, but most demo-patches do of course use this filter.

You might have other requirements on a filter for your music, but for trance/electro this filter works really really good. After all, this synth works really really good for that kind of music.

Again. You can say, you don't like this music and this synth is not your cup of tea, but saying "it's terrible", "the filter has low quality" and stuff like that, doesn't make sense.

i havent read the thread but listened some samples of this synth and to me it sound fake, good but fake ,dunno why ..it s just to steril sounding imo lifeless,it have no vibe ,flat.. like it have been sqashed a lot ,overcompressed ,maybe it s the demo dunno

Nokenoku, how many filters have you used in your time, in hardware and in software? how many can you say are distinct enough that you could pick out which one you're hearing with JUST THE FILTER and any arbitrary material passing through it?

that's what i expect from a filter, it has to be something, not just "a filter". my description of the filter in sylenth based upon the demos i've heard stands and was exactly what i'm repeating here: it's a standard, plain sounding filter like any vst plugin which has no real features and doesn't stand out in any way. i'd be comfortable to say in fact that it is impossible to pick that filter out of the 100s of other standard sub-par dsp filters which mind you are probably exactly the same code/function out there in the wild.

the same applies to the oscillators and modulation features. the envelopes and modulators don't sound special at all, at least not with the patches i've heard and not from the screenshot of the gui. there are no parameters on that gui which would give you any kind of power not available from the standard vst, aside maybe the "width" parameter in the oscillator.

this thread is "is there any synth that sounds better then sylenth1?", yes, there are heaps of better sounding synths, even in general cases. it doesn't appear that sylenth1 does anything particularly well at all. the only 'feature' it has is a very simple gui and it's easy to use, simplified and limited modulation options with it's very, very simple oscillators, 'stereo width' parameter and featureless filter. this is the perfect synth for when you want a plain, lifeless sound with 'stereo width' as used in many trance productions.

the thread OP asked a question, and this is my answer.

by the way, based upon the name: "silence 1", the synth was designed to 'replace' synth1 and silence the nonsense surrounding it. it hasn't even achieved that goal, but it has quickly become equally as annoying with quite a few reality-oblivious fanboys touting it as the best sounding synth ever.

This is turning out to be a pretty funny thread... thanks for the chuckle.

Tell me about it, some things on KVR never change!.

Think I'll just spectate this time *gets popcorn* :hihi:

I wonder how many people will stop liking Sylenth1 because of this thread...

Yes but that superwave jp8000 emulation sounds much better because it uses standard synthedit filters and because it looks just like jp8k. Many people in this forum cant hear any difference. And also because of that the oscillators of it are beefy!

It actually sounds better than any analog synth because digital synths dont have any differences because they are only zeroes and ones!?

well, i did. i thought for the past few months it actually was a decent synthesizer and i've been shown to have been wrong about that. from now on when i see somebody write "sylenth1 is the most analog ..." i'll immediately have to assume the person doesn't have the slightest clue what they're talking about.

that's kvr for you though, the majority of people here are clueless about audio. i'm the only guy who bothers to post in threads like this, it seems anybody else with any idea of what sounds good or what sounds bad just completely ignores it and passes it off as a fanboy wank.

Threads like this just make me love Sylenth even more.

@aciddose, indeed...
It's not what you use, it's how you use it...

Also can someone recommend me some nice supersaw synth that has a nice sounding filter (not like that generic sylenth filter) also i would appreciate that if every preset patch werent so flangy

To be fair to the original poster, he never mentioned the word 'analog' once in his opening post, just that he was expressing his love for the sound of this particular synth and felt others didn't match up to this particular sound, NOT that it was some 100% representative of an analog sound.

Whilst I don't agree with the original poster because sounds come in soo very many and varied forms (and sometimes we want totally crazy, or cold, or harsh sounds in our mixes too) so 'good' is soo damn subjective. I do agree that Sylenth1 is still one of the finest sounding soft-synths available today (and I'm still a big fan of its oscillators and fast reacting filter).

In fact, interestingly enough, during the development of Alchemy and comparing the speed one can alter the filters cutoff using midi cc's, I used the Sylenth1 as a reference point, as I was able to change cutoff using mod wheel in a far more rapid and much smoother sounding way than a lot of the other soft-synths in my collection. That's one of the coolest things about Sylenth1's filter, not only its ability to respond to midi cc changes as well as with an lfo or env, but the way it auto smoothes between the points if you're using say a hardware slider that makes the midi cc numbers jump from 0-3-5-8-12 etc, as when doing this with some soft-synths, it causes the cutoff to sound stepped, so you have to manually ramp the cc numbers in the sequencer to help smooth it out.

..I said I was just going to spectate didn't I.... doh!
