It's defenitely the same plugin we're having in mind (too bad I've been quite late in the betatest).
It defenitely proves that there's other ways to approach sound design and easy user interaction. Pretty much exactly what I think computer based UIs should be like when all you want is inspiration (compared to a somewhat deeper knowledge - which is still something you could make use of in said plugin). Really, I can't describe how fantastic I rate this sort of a new approach. It might not be the "be-end-of-it-all" plugin but it's certainly heading into the right direction. Personally, I wish the company in question all the success I could imagine, even if it was just because of someone finally taking a different approach towards sound design. It's been about time, seriously.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

I'm hoping that he's talking about Alchemy.

no, he is talking about an other one, far more original design...

Yeah, they've picqued my curiosity, too. Any idea on a timeframe of when this thing might become public?

Not if it can't see through my Oakleys, it won't. It would be very uncool to have to work without your shades on, don't you think? On a more serious note, how long will it take us to train our eyes to the same standard that we have trained our hands and fingers? I can see some use for such technology but I don't see it replacing my keyboard and mouse anytime soon.

I'd probably be getting some work done. The boss would love it! Realistically though, I'd be doing what I did when I was bored at work before the interweb - playing minefields or doodling or anything.
The ways in which the 'net have changed my life are trivial. It has replaced magazines as a means of keeping me up to date with things and its meant I don't need to keep an atlas or encyclopedia on the shelves at home any more. That's the positives.
On the negative, it has made it significantly more difficult to get an album released and made it much harder to get a profile as an artist, as it has removed most of the old filters. Its like trying to find a goldfish in the ocean, as opposed to an aquarium. Its a free-for-all where the worst band in the world can have the same profile as the best, simply by marketing themselves. The 'net has made it considerably more difficult to find good music too, for similar reasons.
OTOH, mobile phones have revolutionised my work, which has had a huge impact on my lifestyle. OK, email helps with that too, but mostly that has been a boon for my bosses and a burden on me.
20 years ago I could never have found an overweight guy dressed like an extra from Star Trek TNG's poorly produced and composed music or boring virtual synths. Now they're at my fingertips!
Sure you could. I've been featured in CM a few times. And its actually a good example of how much harder I have to work to maintain any kind of profile. Even more so of how spectacularly unsuccessful it remains, still.
At the end of the day, the 'net might have changed the way we do things but I don't feel that it has really changed the things we do at all. I used to have arguments with people before the internet now I can do it without going to the pub. Hardly a revolution, although I don't get into as many physical fights as I used to.

For me this argument is the wrong way round. We shouldn't have to temper our reactions to the software, the software should respond to our (reasonably consistent) human reflexes. Often you will hear people saying that a piece of software is "intuitive". All this means is that the dev. has designed the interface to work well with the user. It's not rocket science. With neural net emulations the possibility is there for software to train itself to our individual idiosyncracies too. But at present the nearest we get to that is a "random" button, if we're lucky.

I'm typing this on a standard "qwerty" keyboard, which was originally designed to make typing slow and methodical so that the original mechanical typewriter didn't jam. Funny how we get trapped by legacy issues, ain't it?

at first i thought alchemy, too, but then decided that couldn't be it.
i hope the price will be lower than alchemy, too. ;)

oh yes...
but different synth entirely...

Mighty different, if I guess right.

well, I saw you "there", so probably...

*thumbs up* There are good interface ideas yet to be explored. Nice to see some of them making the trip from designer's brain to real product.

indeed... now let's stop making everybody wondering what we are talking about, shall we? hehehe... :hihi:

I bet I don't even get tempted to buy it. After all, its not like I need any new stuff, probably never will, so unless it sells under the impulse-buy threshold [less than $50 for me], I doubt it will interest me too much.

Actually, thinking about it, that's probably why I come across on threads like this as a little [but only a little] negative. I really stopped looking for anything new about 3 or 4 years ago, when I started to make useful synths of my own. I am 100% satisfied that I have all the features, quality and workflow to allow me to do anything I want. That I can do what I'm doing now by tapping just a fraction of what is available to me within the applications I've chosen, makes me feel that I'd probably be able to do anything at all that might interest me in the next 20 years. But I'll still be interested to see this thing that sparked the thread in the first place. You never know... [Of course, by that I mean "you never know. Obviously I know, because... well, I just do, OK?]

Anyway, off to the Motor Show now. you boys have fun, now.

Come on guys, it isn't just the design, it sounds very, very good as well.

Yeah, thanks for PM'ing me the details... otherwise you would be driving me nuts! :D

Actually, I will be quite surprised if anything shows up that I feel a real desire to purchase. I will buy Alchemy (and maybe ditch Absynth) cause it fills an area I don't currently have to my satisfaction, but otherwise, the wealth of synthesis power at my fingertips is more than satisfactory!
