With the current development version of Wine (1.1.6) Live is *almost* usable under Linux, exept that for some reason you can't freeze, record audio and render your songs. Live just can't create an audio file under Wine, dunno why. The get this bug fixed, please test Live and vote this bug in WineHQ Bugzilla: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15695

Awesome. Let's hope for Ableton support for Live 8 though. It's basically one of the only things that's stopping me from using Linux full time instead of Vista.

I am very excited that I can finally run ableton live under linux, and I would also like to see this bug solved (I think it has to do with the filenames and the spaces in the path) but until we have a native linux version (which I doubt it will happen in the near feature) I can't see a point in running a pro-audio application like ableton live under wine because of the poor perfomance.
Of course I have a pretty old PC and this may be the problem, but under winXP things go REALLY faster and although the application starts and everything is fine, in real world conditions live is not usable under wine. I can't even open my projects, it returns with an error simply stating that it can't be opened.

Edit: I just managed to open the project I was writing under winXP (It wouldn't open until I had collected the samples) and now I am really excited. Latency and performance is at very good levels.
Thanks wine developers and now I will vote for this bug to be solved for sure.

Thank you for your help. As for performance... You already said that performance is at good level, and I must confirm it. Live running absolutely smooth here, but because of this last bug I still use XT2 windows version much more - and it also shows excellent performance. Almost all VSTs I use also running without any problems under Wine. Linux+Wine is really usable nowadays and I'm sure we should help Wine developers to hunt as much bugs as we can.

OH GOD, PLEASE SAVE ME FROM THIS FABRICATED HELL FROM APPLE AND WINDOWS..... I DON'T WANT TO MARCH ON LIKE A NAZI ANYMORE.

PLEASE, I PRAY EACH NIGHT BEFORE I SLEEP THAT ABLETON LIVE WILL BE A FULLY FUNCTIONING DAW IN LINUX.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.... THINGS HAVE GRADUALLY GOTTEN WORSE AS THE YEARS HAVE PASSED. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO ACTUALLY WENT BACK TO AN OLD ATARI COMPUTER AND ADATS.

PERSONALLY, I'VE BOUGHT ALL OF MY SOFTWARE, AND HAVE WAITED ALMOST 2 YEARS FOR THE COMPANIES TO WORK OUT THE BUG AND THEIR INDIFFERENCES. I'VE SPENT 10 TIMES MORE HOURS ON FORUMS TRYING TO FIND THE CAUSE OF MY BUGS AND ERRORS THAN I HAVE PRODUCING IN MY STUDIO.

THIS IS AN ALL TIME STALL IN MY CREATIVE LIFE.. I PRODUCED MORE MUSIC ON MY OLD 4 TRACK CASSETTE RECORDER IN THE EARLY 90'S THAN I HAVE ON MODERN TECHNOLOGY WHICH COST THOUSANDS OF TIMES MORE MONEY.

I just make music. Seems as though youre being a Martyr to Linux for no practical reason. As you get older, you need less cr*p. Im older and take the easy route so I run XP.

Don't you know when/if Live runs on Linux/Wine the bugs will automagically disappear ? It's like a Mac: It just works.

Another little known fact is the the default for IntroduceBugs is set to on in Visual Studio and off on Xcode (Mac) and GCC (Linux). That's mostley the reason for Linux and Mac programs just work and Windows versions is full of bugs. Of course Windows users expect that so we rarely,if ever, change that.
Plus we're evil and like to mess with people.

It's a downright bitch though to get right when you're doing Java programs that run on all platforms. I've finally solved it with a OS detection script to turn it off on Windows.

I ve been building my lil dreams in Mao since more than 7 years now, in minimal musique & sometimes more..., made songs when broken my heart onto girlfriends or when i was really really happy O_O.

And well... when i see peoples, with money, using MAO ..... i wanna cry. Really.

I got a believe... you can divide 1 in a lots of single parts, but they will have the value they have.

Numeric will never be 100% as hardware is. It can go to 99,9% one day.. why not soon... but then ? after ? 99,99%? analogic > numeric

I got ears, i found this. I found that what i was trying to do in the computer, is I was trying to make a real sound. The impossible thing.

One day i eard analog stuffs. And I am now willing to make money with the numeric to go as fast as possible to analog.

I m music addict social andropath so i wont go "work" for this, i cant.

But for peoples having money and still dunno what to CHOOSE, stop the numeric please. It's jut idem as the "overdose-information" time we are living in the actual society. Sooo much to sort.

347 vsts.. ok there is 1 or 3 in these that you really love. You learn it.. that s nice after time you know it.

But the only direction we all going is : Tube preamp, Tube mixtable, Tube computer, Tube Kick drum, Tube neigboors, and then a Tube compressor before the tubeSoundsystem/ headphone...

I m minimalist, i m used to watch on the single sound and make them speak.

There, we ear defferencies between 96k & 192k.. and obviously between analog & numeric.

In fact i wanna say f.c. the numeric and copy paste it a lot.

It's all about time we give and trust in our ears we have. Every day my ears open more, now i cant use volume over -2/-4dB. Havnt born like this

Numeric is industry. Cheap cheap cheap blabla, but as i said we can try go 99% with it.
