dont know if this one has been posted before but if not it sounds like alot of fun (its a feature already built into some plug-ins and Renoise can do it to any plug-in and its too much fun!):

This is the information/description from the page:

VST Preset Generator description

A program to create randomly generated presets for your favorite VST instruments and effects

VST Preset Generator is a program to create randomly (or semi-randomly) generated presets for your favorite VST instruments and effects. (VST = Steinberg Virtual Sound Technology).

VST Preset Generator generates fxp (program) or fxb (bank) files that you will be able to open with your favourite VST.

You need to have already a fxb or a fxp file from your VST, because the program needs to read some header parameters from these files to create a new one.

You simply have to select "save the preset" in your VST Host.
Some VST use the "opaque chunk method" to stock information in the preset file in order to avoid external modification.

In this case the VST Preset Generator can not generate randomized file.

But then on closer inspection i found this minor detail

:

· Can change the application's language at the beginning (currently only English and French)
· changed the max of program in a bank (100 to 1000)
· generation button in the tool bar
· the colums of the parameters table is automatic resized.
· button to assign the same random method to all parameters
· button to assign random method and random values to all parameters (just for fun!)
· use of the progress bar when generating a patch file
· on close, don't ask to save the vst list if it's empty
· No crazy progress bar behavior when you load a vpg file
· Use a ini file to store the path of differents files (vst folder, vpg folder and fxb/fxp folder)
· Can import VST parameters from a drag&drop of a dll or patch file (spacedad idea)
· change value in the parameter table in only one click (just to save life of your mouse )

Good to hear your getting into the pain in the arse part jimi! (a necessary evil i guess but the magic happens when you suddenly realize that you are just going for it because you like the sound and to hell with everyone else

but you know what i mean and i fully agree - the critical mid-range on tape sounds way different than on disk and the mid-range to me is the part off the mix which needs to sit nicely but with clarity as you say with regards to guitars, one thing that may sound strange but has aided that issue for me alot is: i track guitar(s) before the bass if possible which helps a great deal *not recommending you do it - just mentioning it as one of my 'experiences'/'experiments' but the gains that i use and many bands i have tracked use is high, very high and tuned below (many times WAY below) EADGBE mainly*. At the end of the day IMO if it sounds right then it is right and is the way i view mixing and really i am far from an expert!

Yeah I tune to "C" myself. You get nice thick chunk on C. Sometimes for the hell of I'll tune down real real low to the point where, when u pick, it sounds like a bend each time. Or till the strings flap on the pick-ups. Sounds like the strings barf every time u pick.

Only for effect though. There's a song on Meshuggah's Catch 33 where the singer is singing through a vocoder and picking different strings and u can hear them flappin' all over the place. Kind of a cool experimental vibe.

Btw, Meshuggah's new CD, Obzen, is very good. Check out "Bleed" there drummer is totally sick mate.(can those not from way out west even use the word"m8"?)
