I can't think of the term - driving me nuts!!! I'm talking about where, if the lyric was "I'm going up", the melody will travel up to underline the meaning...

Anyone?

I think it's prosody isn't it?

Hmmm, I don't think that's what I'm after.

Hmmm, it's not what I'm thinking of, so I must be explaining myself badly

I learned it as "tone painting", but it's also called "word painting".

I think the word you're looking for is "cheesy"!

Just kidding. I have a song where I sing the word "early" early. Other examples would be stopping on the word "stop", or whispering the word "whisper". I would also have answered "Prosody", although as I understand it that's when the mood of the lyric and the music match.

You're not thinking of onomatopoeia, are you? Like "clip-clop" and "thwack"?

Yeah, I ended up using word painting, but I'm positive there's another more technical term for it :?

Yeah, or aka "text painting" - that's what I assumed the OP was looking for.

Woops, that response was meant for Gregjazz, obviously. Not Onomatopoeia, no, although I love that word :)

Mimesis.

It's the Greek word for "cheesey", Hewitt. :-)

All that stuff falls under prosody I guess but now we're going to get some Lacanian wacko drop in and tell us we've got it all backwards.

Me too, it's great the way that it's spelt how it sounds...

Tonal proportion?
Predetermined action?

I dunno, I think the English lyrics of One note samba could be considered something of similar nature, given it talk about the melody itself as it goes.
