Hi :)

I hope this still turns it anyway, somehow :o
It would be very pity if this thrilling and funny competition would be discontinued.

Dear Ben: Listen to your heart.... and say YES !!

@ugo: Wise and good words!

...Have fun...

It would be a shame if the DC doesn't go ahead, but I can understand if it doesn't, there needs to be a demand for such a thing, it seems to me as though it's the developers that want this a lot more than the end users, I honestly don't think the end users care all that much, I means whats another 40 free plugins to add to the all ready thousands available, how many plugins does a person need?

I think for the DC to be more attractive to the end users, it needs to be more competitive with less entries higher rewards and more commercial dev's taking part, this way as ugo has mentioned dev's would be able to use the DC as an advertising platform for there commmercial plugins.

I think having two category's would work simply Amateur and Professional, Amateur would just be up and coming dev's and pro would be already established dev's with commercial products.

Anyone winning the amateur category would be promoted to the Pro category the next time round, this will ensure that as the DC progresses year upon year the pro category will get bigger and be filled with high quality developers.

Of course though theres not to much point working out any details at the minute until we actually know it's been given the green light to go ahead.

Cheers

I simply suggest to jump the year 2008 all over and come back with anew grit next year, it's more professional. :)

oh cmon, you guys are just way too lazy

you obviously have people ready to partisipate

all you need is 1 mass email to the audio companies
and a paypal donate button

2 months is plenty of time for people to make a plug-in

f**k-it, I'm unofficially officially starting DC08 now

DC08 has begun

all entries due by 11:59PM december 31, 2008

There's really no point in rushing this through now, it will be best to put it off until next year.

And two months is not plenty of time to make a plugin I would want at least that just for beta testing and patch making, never mind designing and making the actual plugin.

cheers

Hi All,

I don't know if I want to be professional, this discussion around this idea than we should be professional after an amator period is null...
I don't like this idea.

Perhaps tomorrow I will do sharewares but...

Some synthesizers of my products are better of lot pay wares if the people cannot understand that it is not my problem finally.

I'm paying $50 of my own money to the guy that steps up and gets things organized and running. [As in, does all the main work]

[This offer expires if no one takes the position by the end of January]

Bump

KVR is still looking for someone to set-up the 2009 DC Challenge, organize things, talk with developers and that kind of thing. Post a reply if you're interested or have more questions.

Based on other threads in the DC forum it looks to me as if Tolga's still planning to handle some of the DC but I couldn't tell you what part.

Who organized DC in the past?

Could you put what jobs and what positions are needed exactly, or are we all doing this for the first time?

Something like..

- Position 1 - Sets everything up, communicates with manufactures for fund raising, talks with all other people involved, etc.

- Position 2 - Needs to be able to set up a website area, makes sure all the participant entries gets hosted on a site, like what's been done last year

- Position 3 - Someone that is available to help for small tasks for making graphics for the website page, perhaps a special assignment of contacting a software company or two, or corrisponding with some of he member entries

- Position 4 - Someone who writes out the rules (Copy and paste from previous years?)

Meffy, could you set up something like that... Then I (or whomever) can start contacting people that seem interested, and put their names in those positions, then start corresponding with them to make sure they're ready to get things going.

(maybe you've already done so, and I've missed it)

Like I said, I'm a lousy organizer. Here are my (scattered, as usual) thoughts so far.

I figured on raising prizes this time since I've got last year's list of donors and have been in contact with them so they know at least approximately who I am and that I'm legitimate -- not some schmo trying to cadge stuff for myself. I'm on reasonably good terms with a lot of KVR's (and my) favorite independent developers and a few of the big guys.

How to handle money donations? Obviously for security's sake, any money donated should be entrusted to some sort of escrow account that I have absolutely no connection with; Tolga will probably know how that kind of thing is done. Merchandise prizes are no problem, I just keep a list of who donated how many of what and then connect donors with recipients after things are over. Only the donors and the recipients ever see the actual physical goods, if there are any. There'll be a few exceptions like that swag bag last year. Won't be many. Those we can handle individually.

When the time comes I can handle prize distribution again, using a slightly streamlined version of last year's procedure if there are no objections. The streamlining would consist of a time limit of a day or two before the prize draw passes on to the next winner, plus pre-submitted, prioritized "wish lists" wherever possible, so those who can't make their decision live can have their preferences on record and the best choice available can be assigned to them -- nice and quick, then we move on to the next winnah and the next...

The procedure, concocted ad hoc last year as the most equitable arrangement I could think of on the spot, should be formalized and documented this time. And if others think the prize distribution process I worked out needs to be otherwise amended or even scrapped and another arrangement worked out, I'm open to that. I don't "own" any of this, it's just the part of the operation I stepped in to handle last time 'round and I'm perfectly willing to adapt things if needed, or to cede whatever portions of the position others could do better to them as can.

Likewise I can do various secretary-like "send a letter to so-and-so" tasks, putting people in touch and managing lists and so forth. Small graphics chores are no problem but I'll be too busy with my programming job to do an entire Website.

If I had my mother's legendary skills at generating publicity and working the media, the DC would be in all the national newspapers. Sad to say I did not inherit any portion of those skills. Someone else will have to do that stuff.

Post

I suppose that media would be my task. All I need is a complete list of all contacts and such stuff. I'm not very experienced, but who says one can't train the experience? I was thinking maybe post a trailer on sites like YouTube, Ireport and other such sites. Should work up some attention for this competition. Think about it. If we could get the trailer on Ireport then there is a chance that CNN will play it in their 30 minutes long weekly program called Ireport... That would show the entire world this competition. The chance is that composers would join in and donate money for this competition. What do you think about this idea?
