What do you think of this name for a Genesis tribute band:

Squids, I thought it might be the RMI, as I'd heard about it somewhere (probably here actually!)

Sounds great, I guess thats the sound used on seconds out in the 'how dare I be so beautiful' section of suppers ready ... "wandering in the chaos the battle has left..." that bit!

RMI is all over Seconds Out. It is probably the most that keyboard has ever been used.

Tony loved that thing. It was a silly keyboard I have to say. But, it did have an unusual "plinky" sound as well as a good swirly sound with the phaser in organ mode. It's nice to have samples of it though because it was HEAVY and didn't do much otherwise!

Yeah, Seconds Out was my first introduction to the older genesis songs, so to me the arpeggios in carpet crawl, the intro to the lamb lies down, the instrumental bit in Firth of Fifth etc are meant to sound like that. I was kinda surprised when I got the studio albums and heard piano!!!
didn't sound nearly as good

Didn't realize it was a piano replacement sound, just thought that was how it was supposed to sound!

Yeah, it was either that, a wurly or a rhodes at the time. Wakeman and Banks used the RMI. At least it was used as a sort of "different" piano-like instrument... especially as an ORGAN! But, as much as a like the sound from that era I really loved the CP70 sound which was warm and dynamic later. But, I also love the REAL piano sound on the earlier albums. In fact up until Genesis Genesis I think I love every sound Tony has used. But, from Invisible Touch on, the sounds were hit and miss for me, especially when he started just using "regular" Korg and Roland synths. His sound is PROPHET, ARP, RMI, MELLOTRON, CP70, HAMMOND, VP330, SYNCLAVIER, EMULATOR 1&2... THAT kind of stuff.

I went through several electric pianos back in my Prog days and used an RMI for a while. The last one for me was a Baldwin ElectroPro. Never got a CP70. After Moog and Sequential Circuits I went to E-Mu, Ensoniq, and Kawai for synths. My original K5 is still on my keyboard stand. Some things are powered down in my rack or stored. For some reason I never warmed to Korg or Roland, skipped them and went to software.

I actually just bought an RMI and I love it. Here is a video of it I put on Youtube.

I can't wait to use it live.

Dug up from 4 years ago... the vault. I don't even remember this conversation! Haha. Meffesis sounds good though. I also thought of "Jazzasis" when I was working with Simon. Jazz versions of Genesis songs. It'd be horrible in a great way. We didn't do it though... there's just not enough time in the day.

Actually, a friend of mine who we've done sampling with named Mark Hornsby and Spock's Bearded Vocalist/Drummer Nick D'Virgilio just did the entire Lamb Lies Down on Broadway with all Nashville session musicians who had no idea what on Earth it was. They also did Dixieland arrangements, Barbershop quartet type stuff with it... pretty bizarre. Some Jazzisis going on here and there as well with the HORN section! You gotta check it out. You'll either love it or hate it.

It's called Genesis Rewired or something like that.

Are you familiar with Hayseed Dixie? They do bluegrass covers of AC/DC and KISS, among other things.
