"If you like the sound of the "Alpha Juno" you will love the sound of JunoX²."
Marketing blurb from the ReFx guys. No need for apologies. The sheer smugness i'm feeling right now is enough.

So then it's alright to infringe on other people's IP ?

Marcus is pretty protective of his own. Should'nt that apply both ways ?

If you claim something like this you should prove it! I *NEVER* collected a single IP or sued anyone in my whole life.
Marcus is pretty protective of his own.
How can you know this? Do we know in private?

It's a perfectly fair comparison, which you could make with a multitude of VSTi..he never duplicated the sound precisely, nor copied their GUI
Plenty of similar names and numerical combinations have been used in virtual instruments.

You are clutching at straws..Roland have proven to be aggressively litigious on numerous unwarranted occasions, but worse...extremely inconsistent.

I've used Roland synths since well before you were in diapers. I'm sorry, they make shit now..and if you actually OWN a Jupiter 8 you would realise that...You haven't made an even vaguely consistent argument that their IP was even being definitely stolen.

You can be as smug as you like, you sound like a damn fool to me.

just because someone sticks 'i' in front of their product name, doesn't mean Apple get to own it...the same is for Roland.

of course it was, dearie.
the similarities were fleeting at best...
so what was the actual point of calling it 'Alpha Junox' then, if the similarity was fleeting?

Roland think they own combinations of numbers and letters now...despite the fact they haven't made anything vaguely interesting themselves using such names for many years.
So, if Roland had brought out an 'Alpha Juno XS' that was 'vaguely interesting' then, and only then, would it been have okay for them to complain about another synth company using the name 'Alpha Junox' for one of their own products?
I guess Volkswagen dont have a leg to stand on if someone brings out a car called the 'Veedub Betel', then.

Calling it the Junox2 and referring to it as a better Aplha Juno.
There's your proof.

By 'IP', he meant "Intellectual property(es)" and not "IP address".

better than some idiot joker like yourself..
Trademark law governs the use of a device (including a word, phrase, symbol, product shape, or logo) by a manufacturer or merchant to identify its goods and to distinguish those goods from those made or sold by another
So 'Alpha Juno' could be considered a phrase constituting a trademark
A mark is infringed under U.S. trademark law when another person uses a device (a mark) so as to cause confusion as to the source or sponsorship of the goods or services involved.
And if used to describe a synth, 'Alpha JunoX' would be using a... well you get the picture. Although you'll most likely wriggle around having a tantrum rather than admit it.

Back to Arkham Asylum, nutjob.

I see.
'Alpha Junox' then, if the similarity was fleeting?
The first Alpha Junox was a hobby project for our experimental liveband 'wellenthal' and planed as freeware (in the year 2001). Later WiliamK offered to me to distribute and sell it over Dashsynthesis. I got rich and earned exactly $180 ;-) . Alpha JunoX was quite a bug deaster and not very professional.
It was discontinued because Michael Kleps from reFX took over the project (Junox2). He reprogrammed it and adopted my OSCs, filters and the routing. The plugin was sold for $29.
