Has anybody tried the Eno approach, with the cards? I've been thinking of creating a deck with random instructions, where you, if your mind gets stuck, pull a card and it says (for instance): "on third down-beat of the third bar, transpose melody one half-tone up" or "radically change hi-hat pattern" or "insert a two-bar break with an airy pad vocoded with drums or bass" or something...
Of course, these instructions might not actually work in the musical context, but it might work as a way of "jolting" the mind and explore alternative approaches not immediately thought of.
How do YOU beat musician's block?

I don't let it worry me, the ideas will come when they come. I've hardly written anything in the last four years or so but its not an issue, its happened before and after the last drought, which lasted about 5 years, I came up with the best songs I've ever written.

I keep multitude of unfinished projects. Usually when I open up DAW, I'm trying to start something from scratch. If I feel uninspired, I browse for some older project which is not yet very advanced and try to develop it. If I fail here, I browse for some more finished track, which maybe needs some work on the mix. If I find no work here, I can at least claim a track finished, which is better than spend hours noodling with the DAW for nothing.
I guess it's not very effective approach. But this way I never feel blocked.
