it's a totally different beast, definitely...
it fits guitars very well, but cal also fit other needs since it's true stereo in-stereo out capable.

That was a nice bump! :D

What?

Without reading the whole thread... :)

Is it possible to run a Gearbox/Podfarm amp or preamp into TH-1's cabs?

(I didn't see a Diezel Herbert MKII amp modeled in the TH-1 list yet)

Well, not directly. You could just place the cabs first in the chain in TH-1 and it would be the same thing.

So you can bypass the input gain completely then?

Post

I don't think there IS an input gain that will get in the way in TH-1. Or am I misunderstanding?

Hmm, I thought there was a gain level when you open the hood up...I haven't installed it yet, so I'm going off memory here (from the website).

There is a switch to change between lo gain and high gain, but it's not a volume knob or anything. You can open up a little level checker and it tells you to set your level at your interface until the volume reaches the suggested level on the checker.

There is a hi/low gain selector at the top of the UI. Click the 'OPEN' tab just above the tuner.

You can remove the amp (and everything else) from the chain, if you're only wanting the cab in the signal chain.

So yes, I'd assume that you could chain gearbox and TH1 together (within your host). I cannot say how the results will sound though!

FWIW, I just tried running Cubase's amp sim (sans cab) signal into TH1, and it sounds pretty nice actually (the 2X12 cab anyway). :)

EDIT: running Cubase's amp sim (with the modern setting) into TH1 with only the 2X12 cab (OB Darkface) and a bit of room verb in the chain sounds pretty damn huge! :-o I'm lovin the mic placement feature.

Cool...so I could probably run another TH-1 instance before Podfarm to use the TH-1 stompboxes then as well.

Guess it's time to install the demo...cheers guys.

Definitely. It's especially easy because TH-1 uses an insanely small amount of CPU. So having multiple copies in your project isn't going to break anything at all.

TH1 signal path can be anything you like:
examples
- use real stomps, get into TH1, use its amp and cab, use another plug for 'rack' FX and studio processing (eq, comp...)
- use TH1 for stomps, use another amp sim for the amp (to widen your choice of amps... even though you're really losing 50% of TH1 there), load another TH1 and use cabs + eventual rack/stomp FX post-cab or pre cab (to emulate the send-return chain in some amps).
- use TH1 for everything but cabs and load an external IR of a cab of your likings
- use TH1 for everything, then run your own power amp + real cabinet
- use TH1 fully: load 2, 3, 4 amps in a row (!!! for amazing gain control and different tone stacks or tube stages colors, try it but be careful with gain settings!) or in parallel or use the amazing SLR morphing feature to literally create your own amp...
the signal path is 100% flexible while keeping it easy it get. Personally I got lost in many other signal paths very easily... those ones where you have to rely on a smal graph 'detailing' the signal path or the ones forcing you to load only very specific modules in a specific position or worse the vertical rack-like interfaces with splitters and mixers that soon start to confuse me about what the whole sound is about. Of course my opinion is biased since I had a strong part in designing such aspects in TH1.

I had quite some fun playing with TH1 so far (will probably post a few little samples later on today), but what I really wish is that one could load IRs directly. Sure, as a Logic user I don't have much problems using Space Designer (which adds almost no latency), but I'd find it to be a massive improvement if that would be possible straight inside TH1, simply because that way I could use IRs in other hosts and in the standalone version as well.
Don't get me wrong, the included speakers and mics are doing a really nice job, but for some sounds I prefer a few of the impulses I've collected over the years.

Oh, btw, here's two things that could be improved:
- The "Vox" model. It's really nice but doesn't sound too much like a Vox. I'm missing some "thump" or whatever you may call it.
- It'd be great if all components could be bypassed easily in the top overview pane. Also, the stomp boxes should display their on/off status there more clearly (just like the rack FX do). This would make comparisons a lot easier.

Cheers
Sascha
