1st, I am NOT a guitar player. But, I have tried all the amp sims and just did not like the overall tones. Last night I thought I would try the demo out. I was AMAZED at how realistic it sounds. I suck and it made me sound good :)) Bad news is our business has been hit hard due to the economy. So it will be a month or so :(( But, just wanted to compliment the TH1. To me it is the best out there.....

I wish I was special. So f'n special...

Maybe that's part of it, but the reason I'm pro copy protection is that when a developer gets money from each copy that's out there, there is incentive to make the software as good as possible so that more copies get out there. If 80% of the copies are pirated then it's easy to say, "Why bother?" Street cred is nice, but it's nicer to be able to afford a home and food. I want to live in a world where companies like Overloud feel it's worth their time to make a kick ass product. Isn't that special?

My god, this thing rocks! Actually it reminds me a lot of my J-station, but with better effects. This should be a great compliment to my rig: I can record dry and wet with my J-station, and then i can alter the dry track afterwards with the TH-1.

Awesome.

hi Simone,
what is special about this 4th generation of modelling that others don't have?

what types of physical pehnomena are modeled in TH-1 which are most probably not in other products?

I'd really like to know what this plugin has to get this extra push over the cliff, you know :) does it internally recreates the most complicated non linear feedback charges of electrons or what??? that"s so amazing, you guys should teach in electrical engineering being able to solve cicuits like that in real time! I'm sur this modelling has other applications besides amps and stomps

have you guys all phds?

what i was trying to say is, i think it makes no different if it's protected or not. who can afford it an worth the money buys it, who not, doesn't. and there are other things that come to account. i've written software years back and highst sellingrate was after it got ähhm, how to say without getting banned her, public.

and PACE and it's tpkd.sys driver gets installed anyway, also with the licencefile registering.

We considered your idea, but we think that doing so will:
- make distribution very hard (we would have to create tons of different packages): we want and need to reach for the whole world
- dilute the whole TH1 concept a lot
- not make it much cheaper for you (it's very complicated to explain but trust me).
- factory preset management would be impossible
- Smart controls would lose much of their raison d'etre

So, get TH1 and only use that section if that's what you want or need.
:P

(btw, thanks for the suggestion... we always take them preciously... so, who knows what the future will bring)

Get it and play it :P
Just kidding...
Let me wear the teacher hat:
1) NO modeling system never models each single component in an electronic piece of hardware: the 'perfect' models of even the simplest circuit is so heavy on the CPU that still nowadays has to run off-line (non-realtime) and takes lots seconds if not minutes for each second of audio to be processed.
Don't trust people making you believe it's the opposite.
2) 4th generation is because:
Thomas (our PhD in tube and analog modeling) started doing this more than 10 years ago
Thomas worked on the first generation of the first ever integrated FX and Amp modeling software (1st generation)
Thomas worked on the Simulanalog.org models (VST freewares): second generation
Thomas added lots of research to this: better emulation of tube component and of heat-inducted electronics inside amps; better emulation of speaker cabinet load on the power amp, better emulation of passive tone stacks and how they interact together... SLR (morphing) technology between two different amps... better rendition of playing dynamics
...
and other niceties...
all of this at the price of a lower CPU overhead than the competition.

We call this 4th generation tube modeling tech...

We're using the same kind of modeling technology in BREVERB to model even digital hardwares...
Overloud (and its parent company, Almateq) uses this technology for other, non-audio oriented projects
Overloud is run by software engineers, not by marketing-driven guys... of course we value marketing, but we always put sound first.

With the low CPU usage, I doubt it would make much sense to make a cut down version with only cabs or stomps, or whatever. Just put multiple instances in the project. Your CPU will barely know it's there. I'm not against cut down versions that are done that way strictly to offer a more affordable solution, but I think cutting it down for the sake of making it into several one trick pony type effects may be a bit much. Can you imagine the sales page with 5 or 10 variations and the confusion? And the distribution chain would get messed up because they would either have to stock several versions at a store, or lose out.

TH1 1.0.1 RELEASED!

Fixes:
- fixed a bug taking you to Bank -1 (!!!!)
- cleared some factory banks: some had 'empty' sounds

New Features:
- new stilish (well...) icons for swap, copy, delete, insert and smart drag
- arrows to dial in ALL parameters to Max and Min settings in the Smart Connections window
- Support for mono-to-mono and stereo-to-stereo only capable hosts.
In case you're using such a host and want (of course) to use TH1 with a stereo output:
- load a Stereo TH1 instance
- open the GUI
- right click on the 'transparent' guitar on the leftmost side of the signal path
- choose the setting that is right for you (see picture): either both channels (of the pair selected as input to the track), only the odd (or left) channel or the even (or right) channel.

Hey Simone, I have a question:

What other amp models will be included in time? Any boutique ones in the works?

And also a suggestion, the Darkface model is great, but could use a drive control...Gearbox has one on it's Lux model, it's very useful for getting the right grit level.

I'm still very impressed btw...

Already found a bug in 1.01..
Click to change the bank from factory to user or vice-versa doesn't change the name displayed unless you change the bank number with the arrows to the left and right.
In other words, let us say you are in bank 04 factory and you click to change it to bank 04 user, it doesn't show you you are in user banks until you move to 05 or 03..

I was using this last night for a Trey Anastasio (Phish) rock/jazz/blues fusion tone, mimicking his setup, using a Ross compressor with level and sustain cranked, fast release time, going into a Tube screamer with drive at 6, tone at 4, level 6, with a square609 (Sennheiser) mic on axis dead center, with amp eq as bass=4,mid=8,trebel 5-6, amp level 8-10 with the default room verb that is on that first preset upon load. Pretty gritty cleanish overdriven tone that still has a smoothness to it when lightly picked or grittier when you dig in. I love that (his) tone. Having his custom made completely hollowbody arch top electric guitar also helps too I imagine, with all the natural feedback and sustain you could want.
