Also Simone, if you're ever bored read through this older article http://www.prorec.com/Articles/tabid/10 ... erlok.aspx. This is where the PACE C/R scheme starting getting it's bad public reputation. The reviewer had so many restarts and lost licenses because of PACE, that he decided to make the review about the copy protection instead of the product. Sure, PACE have since fixed those issues, but is that the kind of stuff I want to open up my DAW too?
Hehe, thanks for the little unintended promotion. :hihi:

Hi Funkybot,
(and everybody else interested),
we got a geeky thread going about "noiseless SCs" here.

You kinda started that discussion, so ...
Cheers,

Hi monsterbeetle,

I would like to hear your audio but as nearly non-french speaking I dunno what would I have to click on that site!?

That one:

(I don't know any french either)

The guitar sounds pretty fine to my ears. Shall we say "organic"?

Weird. No problems with FF/OSX.

works here, with Firefox. there is an ad on the left side of the page, and at the right side you see "fichier", below "taille", and below of that in a tiny font "telecharger ce fichier", underlined.

As I sit somewhat dumb (can't move after some nerve at the back is firing, dunno how you call it in french and english, in german it's a bad "Hexenschuss" anyway - I could send you the autowahnmetal.ogg in a mail if you'd like and still had problems. Just pm me in case you need it.

Ah, thanx folks!

Interesting rhythm tone. As the name of the file is autowahmetal.ogg I thought some metal would crush in. Would have been cool after this mellow intro/bridge part. :D

Thanks, Bill. Keep happy.

Scotty, your post above is one of the most level-headed, insightful posts I've ever read. :)

Yep, even Waves planned to drop Pace, after that.
Sadly decided otherwise, later.

Since those days Pace had many other severe issues,
'protecting' me from using my legal software for weeks and sometimes month.
Only way out was to use the 'Pace free' versions.
OK, that was a few years ago, but the main problem remains :
A very intrusive system, combined with lousy coding.

Another, not so long ago, example :
Waves 5 installed a Pace driver that made certain other plugins crash the host!
It took them ONE year to fix that !!!
Now comes the best part :
Half a year later the bug was back !!
... as I said : lousy coding ...

Today I try very hard to NOT use any Pace protected Software.
If there's something unique ( maybe like TH-1 ),
I tend to wait 'till a 'Pace free' version is available, then I buy it.
( I make a living as Studio Owner, so I depend on software companies to survive
and will always pay for the software, I use ! )

bye, Jan

This is an answer we got from PACE:

To uninstall our drivers on Windows, use the "Add or Remove Program" feature found the Windows 'Control Panel' and select "InterLok Driver Kit". The Windows 'Control Panel' can be accessed from the "Start button > Settings".
Understand that on a Windows system, a reboot after the uninstall will be necessary to finalize the uninstall process.

If this option is not available, you may optionally download and run the latest version of the "InterLok driver installer" from our main site (via the following link) and choose the "uninstall" option.

<http://www.paceap.com/dldrvr.html>

To uninstall our extensions for Macintosh, visit the main PACE Anti-Piracy site (via the link above), download the extensions installer archive for the proper operating system version, open the archive, run the script titled "uninstall_extensions.command", and then proceed with the information that will be presented. You will be asked for your system's adminstrative password.
Note that for security purposes when a keystroke is entered when asked for a password, no keystroke will be shown as being entered on the screen. This behavior is as designed.

Thanks for that Simone. It's a little scary that with an older version I'll have to download PACE to uninstall PACE, but I'll give it a go. It's good to see you being so proactive and responding to your customers in such a helpful way. I'd still recommend you look into a proprietary C/R scheme while keeping the iLok available as an option, but until then...

As I stated above, we're considering that option, still, even if we go that way, it will take a rather long time to successfully implement an elegant and functional system.

I agree, you are the kind of developers we all hope for...innovative features and responsive customer service. Just the PACE thing really between us...it could be only 1% of users develop any problems, but my experience is that will likely be me! :D (I have no idea of the actual figures now.)

If anyone's curious, I had a new DUX-nlited install disc image from over 5 months ago(!), which I reinstalled and tweaked to my current setup, then made a new clean image...which I can now reinstall in 8-10 minutes anytime. So I spent most of the weekend backing up stuff first just in case, but got a decent speedup out of it, and peace of mind in case of future probs...so no hard feelings here.

Just one question regarding the iLok...you say you can use this on any computer that the software is installed on, does that mean the PACE drivers also have to be installed on that computer?

I'm thinking if not I could install PACE on a dummy computer and run the TH-1 off the iLok on my main daw...I'm guessing this is not possible though?
