How big exactly is the Sampletank 2.5 XL content?

Hello Sampletank users,
I have recently purchased Sampletank 2.5 XL, and installed it today, but there seems to be less actual sample content than advertised. (btw I have also just written to eSoundz.com, I only post here to see if maybe someone can help quicker):

So, on the IKM website it says 6.5Gb content plus a bonus disc. On the eSoundz website it says that if you buy it from them, there is also a free bonus disc that normally costs 99$.

So I bought from eSoundz.
After installation, I now have a Sampletank 2.5 XL library folder that is 6.2Gb (so not the "more than 6.5Gb sound" as advertised), but there is already a folder called "Bonus Sounds" with a few examples of several Expansion Tank and Sonic Capsule titles from SonicReality. I own most of these already.
The actual size of the original Sampletank 2.5XL content is now 4.8Gb, without the redundant bonus content.

Can other users confirm that, or is something missing here?

Thanks for your time, guys!

Viktor

The spec of 6.5 gigs very well could be the sample data size before any data compression. There isn't MUCH data compression used in XL but there is some 2 X lossless compression on some patches so that could be the difference. As to the bonus sounds that come with it, those are part of the sound set and they have a value (not to mention a cost to IK because they come from SR) so if you already have all of the other libraries you have to remember that not everyone does. There's not a special XL made for those that have all of the libraries. So there is some redundancy there if you do. The advertising anyway is still correct.

The esoundz bonus disc is separate I believe. So email allen (at) esoundz (dot) com about that being put in your user area. I forgot we were still doing that. Hmmmm. I will have to look into that. Obviously if you bought it we'll honor that but this one may have been canceled or was supposed to be. Or maybe not. We'll look into it when we're back in the office next week.

Anyway, regarding XL, the main value of it in my opinion is the number of sounds, not the number of gigs. It isn't meant to be a LARGE INSTRUMENT type of sample player. It is more of a workstation rompler and those sounds don't have to always be large to be good. There are tons of patches in it, even if you don't count the ones that might be redundant if you own all of the ST libraries. Also, do you own ALL of the SampleTank libraries that Sonic Reality has made? Because we have quite a few. I think if you talk to Allen he can probably make you a package deal for some or do something for you because of course we want to make you happy. http://www.esoundz.com/downloads.php?fi ... 8118H28135

Hello Squids,
thanks a lot for your quick reply. Didn't mean to be bitchy about it, sorry. Yeah, it could be the data compression thing. Most hardware manufacturers actually do the same thing, they advertise their keyboards with something like "128MB wave-rom (if converted to 16bit 44.1KHz format)", when the actual size is only half. I don't mind that, it's legitimate to me because the uncompressed size is a format I can understand better. So, good to know that's what Sampletank does too, that clears my confusion.
I have to check out other Sampletank titles from you, as I really like the workstation character of the sounds. I have Kontakt3 for large multisampled stuff that takes lots of resources, so Sampletank is perfect for what it is, and I love the sounds it has. I will contact Allen as you suggest, thanks for the hint.
Have a good weekend,

Viktor

Yeah, it is good to have a Kontakt set up and yet a SampleTank one for a lot of variety of workstation type sounds and also loops now that we've done ReTank. There are a lot of new things on that link: http://www.esoundz.com/downloads.php?fi ... 8118H28135

Also for Kontakt we just released all of the products for the Infinite Player which is a Kontakt Player and of course those sounds can work with Kontakt 3 as well (after you've registered the Infinite Player). So there are a lot of different sound products these days. Yes, sometimes there is a larger original size (also with REXES there is a compression).
