I really want to know how to make French duo Justice's style of slap synth bass...
i've read the "justice sound" forum and no one seems to know exactly what this is...i know its got a lot of tweaking w/compression and probably a bit crusher or something.....do you think this is from a sample set, sampled off vinyl, or a real bass??
if anyone can point me towards some good bass sample sets that would be great...any tips on how justice gets their string sounds in songs like phantom pt. 2 would also be appreciated! Thanks[/url]

Compressed/pitch bent to hell and back slap bass. Listening to D.A.N.C.E right now and if this were any other group or band it would actually critiqued as an awful sounding bass. Almost sounds like it was overly eq'd or something. I think its the way they combine everything together that gives this 'good' illusion.

Not a synth. Definitely sampled. Probably sampled and chopped from some old record.

Sampled, distorted, compressed and chopped. These guys are heavy into sampling. Just use any old funk/disco slap bass loop. There are tons of funk bass sample CDS. Here's one:

Alternatively, you could try the Sonivox collection. Much cheaper and they actually have a dedicated slapp bass set. Two actually, a Fender P Bass and a Spectro. Both very reasonably priced. Take your 'pick'!

to make a real bass sound synthy, you need an envelope follower... like the classic

I'm sure that many times they sample real bass performances, so yes I do think they come from a real bass.graysmizzle wrote:man u guys really think that sound comes from a real bass, considering how much these frenchies sample?? Where did you read that??

Oh and how the fcku does a sampled bass sound from, say, the seinfield theme (its an eg), would differ from a ''real bass'' one...
... as long as its sampled from a song that displayed a real bass... it comes from a real bass...

this actual bass is over compressed bit crushed and distorted. the sound might be a real bass guitar since at some points u can hear a bass guitar slide but not sure.
