Brad,
Might it be possible someday to add the capacity to edit media files using specified external editors? Many graphics viewers have provisions like this, and it can be extremely convenient. It must add editing capabilities without too much programming.
In other words, one might specify Cubase as the MIDI editing program; when need arises, a menu click or two would open the current MIDI file in Cubase, ready to tweak.

Hi.
The Performer edition has a trigger to launch external programs.
Not sure how to pass the media file as parameter... and you have to set up the trigger explicitely to use that!

Hi
Triggers are a bit technical... I don't use that much but it has some potential.
The midi routing is another benefit of Performer, especially useful when you also want to use some older midi gear and want some more options with midi.
Finally midi clock in Performer can be useful when you want to sync from an external source or sync an external device.
Performer adds some subtle tiny things you might love when you go into details...
...oh, and there are Subsessions in Performer, another cool feature when you want very fast sound changes... you can bypass a pugin now without suspending it, resulting in no cut off in the release phase when you just activae another non suspended plugin... or you can reroute the midi path to achive the same...
...a bit triccy maybe, but I don't know any other host that offers such flexibility on the fly!

Forget triggers for this... that's not what they're designed for and wont work properly in this context.
It would be reasonably easy for me to add ability to specify two external commands for editing MIDI and audio files. The harder part is detecting and reloading the files when those other programs save them - but still not that hard.
Leave it with me... I'm in the middle of some other work at the moment, I'll see what I can do after that.

If it proves the least bit difficult, it wouldn't be much effort for users to get along without that. Manually closing the media file and re-opening it from the MRU list is not a strain.
It would be more elegant and even less effortful to have Cantabile do all of it, of course.

This is now available in build 2008 - see http://www.cantabilesoftware.com/blog/article-159.html for more details.lallis wrote:Brad,
