You guys are making me bummed I didn't try and get in on this beta. I was going on vacation the week after Bootsie was asking for requests. Had I known the beta cycle was going to be a long one, I would have tried getting in.

Oh well...looking very forward to release.

This shows the ability of EV on small rooms which are rendered now without any artefacts or comb-filtering kind of effects:

Sounds very nice.

It's quite easy to achieve density and movement in a reverb tail, but a lot harder to get spaciousness or spatial impression. Here's a test : Epic reverb first and HW second - www.relab.dk/reverb/Spatial.wav

It could be a setting, I dont know, but I thibk your reverb lacks some spatial impression - It's mono like. As I said it could eaily be a setting or taste. Anyway I used the last sound from your first sound file for the test.

Cheers

That may be, but EpicVerb is more free of recognizable repeating artifacts in the reverb tail. Very slick, and when I make a reverb I'm going to have to make sure mine's not worse, which will be challenging :)

You beat me to it, jinxtigr! While the "HW" example does exhibit more "spacial impression", there are definitely repeating artifacts in the its reverb tail. I listened to it over and over to see if was hearing things. Good to know I'm not alone.

However, I do have a feeling that had he not used an already "effected" example, the result might not have been so artifact-ridden.

Warp69, what unit was used for the comparison?

And now what is that HW reverb that sounds inferiour to the epicVerb example?

Shogger
What?

Any percussive sound would cause that. And it's far from unusual, we are just being picky and spoiled reverb snobs :) it's NOT that obtrusive, it's a normal thing for algorithmic reverbs. I'm curious what the unit is too.

maybe bootsie will don his santa suit , we can all sit on his lap , and then he gives it to us! (epicverb, that is  )

You're missing my point - I was trying to demonstrate what I meant by Spaciousness - the preset used for that could easily be more artifacts free, since I could increase "Diffusion" and decrease "Definition". The frequency response and length are also different, but that's still not my point - I didn't matched any parameters, except Size - because it obviously has relation to spatial impression.

Oops - forgot to mention the unit : It's an old Lex224XL.

Post

Martin, any plans for a 224 emulation? Are there any reasons beyond getting the algorithms right why there isn't any reverb plugin that sounds remotely as good as the big old Lexicons?
