That's funny, one of mine is tuned to E on all 6 strings...

- it's so easy to come up with snippets 2 to 4 bars arrangements. It is so difficult for me to arrange a whole piece. I send a lot of time waiting for inspiration.
- Nobody listens to my music. I listen to my music in my car - sometimes.
- I forgot I was waiting for somebody to discover me.
- I listen to Christmas carols when my girlfriend is in my car just to make her feel better when I drive.
- If I listen to what I think sounds interesting it'll sound like broken records for anybody else.
- my money from making music is earned by teaching kids violin.
- I thought I will never sell my synths, now I think of it: life's a bitch. I don't really need the money but my gear gathers dust.

Yes "sell", thank you. I didn't proof read. (this could be added to the list)Reverse Engineer wrote:...sell?Adaerus wrote:- it's so easy to come up with snippets 2 to 4 bars arrangements. It is so difficult for me to arrange a whole piece. I send a lot of time waiting for inspiration.

- I use loops and presets unrepentantly. I savor the dirty, icky feeling it gives me.
- I plan on ripping off riffs from all of you on my next CD. It'll drop soon.
- Sometimes I'll use a preset on a synth and then add a preset from an effect and people will think I did something really cool & original when all i did was use 2 presets. Suckers.
- The only guitar amp I've ever owned is virtual (take that you tone freak hippies!)
- People think I'm a better guitar player than I am because I'm pretty good about mimicking guitar sounds on the keyboard.
- People think I'm a better keyboard player than I am because i like to play my guitar through Guitar Rig for odd sounds that sound keyboardish.
- I write basic but finely detailed crap. Finely detailed in the "throw whatever against the wall and see what sticks" sort of way, of course.
- I have never gotten over my guitar envy growing up even though I've finally learned how to play somewhat competently.

i need a lot of time to find out the 'normal' stuff, because i avoid manuals, when i try out a new thingie. So i know a lot of advanced madness, but not the basics, which leads to a lot of laughter, loss of time and chaos.
i like ABBA and The BeeGees
i don't like uninspired virtuosity

A few more...
- I can't read sheet music.
- I don't know squat for music theory.
- Even after all these years I still have to think of what note is where on my bass. The higher I go, the longer it takes me to figure it out.
- Yes, I learned to play/compose by ear.
- I can't play keys even remotely worth a damn. I have no hand independence and I'm not all that good on keys even with one hand. (I now use a Korg pandKontrol as my master controller, and I'm much happier.)
- I buy drum loops and samples, and use other people's presets, if they do the job and give me the type of sound I'm looking for. I don't claim that work is mine though and I'm happy to tell anyone what I used. I see drum loops as hiring a session drummer because I'm not good enough at programming my own rhythms. (But I usually do add extra hits and basic beats of my own over top of them.) I use samples when it's a sound I can't get on my own (acoustic instruments, etc.). I use other people's presets because if a sound is cool and inspires me, why the hell not write with it.
- I am impatient with song writing. I need to get it finished quickly or it will never get done. Once completed, I quickly loose interest in fine tuning it. I'm also distracted easily when writing, which is probably one of the reasons why I use drum loops and other people's presets...they let me focus on writing without getting quite so caught up in sound design and fighting my own bad drum programming.
- For some weird reason, I feel the need to play people my music or upload it somewhere before my mind can consider it actually complete. So once I've posted a song to the cafe, I feel like I've got that thought out of my head and can move on to something else.
