Cheers for trying djgroovy ... just noticed theres a slight prob on preset 7. The 'cleaner' control has retained a setting outwith its range ( its a synthedit thing! ) ... becomes normal with a twiddle... will fix in due course, but I dont see it as a major prob.
Also, I think it could well be useful on the master bus after all ... with the right settings, and if it can be used proportionally rather than straight through .... I assume most DAWs can do this. its a mono effect though, I'll make a stereo version with mono as an option... wont bother with seperate L and R controls though .... ( unless I can be convinced its a good idea )...watch this space.

Cool! cheers for the feedback. I'm finding it increasingly useful for mastering as I get used to the settings. Keep input low, 'cleaner' fairly high and set 'squish' and 'meaner' on low sattings ... like 9'0'clock and it gives a lovely thump to the drums and bass, and brings up the lower parts of the mix.
When I do the stereo version, I may well tinker with the range on the knobs ... or add range switches. I find there is perhaps not enough elbow room between wave peaks being rounded off, and them being overly squared.

Actually, I dont think I'll use switches, rather scale the 'squish' control so that maybe 20% of its existing range is spread over half the knob's movement, and the remaining 80% is spread over the remainder ... might do likewise with the input control, but with different proportions.
I'll do some work tonight, should have a stereo version ready for tomorrow.

OK, nearly there .... in fact I'm sure I'm there but it's bedtime! controls scaled and 'feel' better, preset 7 fixed, and a wee bit of shit circuitry discovered and sorted out.
While I sleep peacefully, here's hoping you guys from other time zones are busy finding fault(s) and reporting it/them before I post ChoobiGrip2 - the stereo/double trouble - version tomorrow
I've gone for a mono out as well as a mono in .... the reason being that if you are feeding in a stereo signal, you might want to have each side processed seperately ( even though the controls are the same ) and monitor each in/out on the VU meters before they are combined into mono. if not, then theres always the option to 'mono' the input.
I just have to do a bit of compensation for the gain difference between mono and stereo mode ( ... to make life easier for everyone except myself
) ... and we're laughing!

OK, here it is.

Happy wave mangling!
If you have got used to ChoobiGrip, then the controls on ChoobiGrip2 might take a bit of relearning.
The input and the squish have been scaled so that at half way up, they have covered 25% of their range. .... at around two thirds, they have covered half their value.
In addition, the input range has been cut .... so compared to the mono version you may be pushing that control a long way further.
the 'cleaner' control has 50% more range, but it is still linear ... so 2/3rds up on the stereo version is equivalent to max on the mono version.
If anyone feels any of my plugs they have downloaded, or intend to download, are worthy of a small donation, then please do .... but not to me, ....

Right, finished testing and wont be doing anymore to ChoobiGrip2 unless anyone has found any problems.
I wouldn't recommend it for typical compression tasks on the master bus ... there are plenty free compressors which will do the job better.
Essentially, its a dirty effect.
However, at gentler settings, with the the input held low and the 'cleaner' control pushed, it can add a bit of punch to the attack, and 'warm' the sound up nicely.
It was designed in the process of waveform transforming experiments fed by a single waveform, and therefore performs better with individual instruments .. particularly mono ( synth leads, bass etc ) adds a lot of weight and colour to these signals..... particularly plucked sounds or stabs.
It can do some mean stuff with drums ....either on its own, or in combination with other effects .... really needs to be tried out .. particularly if the drums on a track are a bit weak, or at lacking at the lower end. Depending on the other settings, a tiny amount on that 'oscener' control can add some seriously scary sub to bass drums.
I hope you find good uses for ChoobiGrip and/or ChoobiGrip2 .... I'm certain it has many I've not yet realised.
Thanks to everyone who has tried it out to date, and cheers again for the feedback.

Downloading now! I love things that squish/destroy things.

Cheers!

Neat. I'd be interested in making a "native" VST for it (don't like SE's hefty CPU load
). Given the algo, it looks like it's something I could whip up relatively quickly. Let me know if you're interested.

Yeah Chris, that would be super! ...tell me what you need to make it possible and I'll send you whatever you need.

If you're not using any 3rd party modules, send me the synthedit file. I can reverse-engineer it from that.

Do ye want to send me an email via PM, or should I PM you a hosting site folder? .... forgive me, I'm not precious about my ideas or plugs, but theres some messy circuitry in there which reminds me of that typical mothers fear of a son or daughter being in an accident and being taken to hospital where it is discovered they have not changed their underwear!!!
