My new studio is finally finished (took about a year of planning, researching, designing, construction, moving, and decorating):

And just how does the new studio sound? It sounds fantastic. All the acoustic treatments paid off big time-everything sounds detailed, accurate, dynamic, and natural. The biggest difference I've noticed is in the low frequencies. In some of my favorite jazz vocal tracks (by Lisa Ekdahl), the double bass used to sound too prominent and boomy in just about any car stereo, home stereo, or even the same set of Klein + Hummel O 300D's in a different room, but now they sound perfectly balanced and articulate. This is kind of sad because you then realize that a vast majority of the population will never hear music on a good system in a good environment, and they will listen to music that doesn't sound like how the original mastering engineer meant for it to sound their entire lives. Currently with two computers running the studio is at low-30's db in ambient noise, and when the computers are off it's about mid to high 20's. If I put the computers in an ISO like I plan to, the studio should stay at about high 20's.

N1 Lunatique. Nice on the HL2 :)

Are those 30"s turned vertically?

:D Entering my studio is a lot like entering Black Mesa Lambada--weird shit will happen.

They're 24 inchers. 30 inchers would be too wide when rotated horizontally--they'd block the direct path to my ears from my monitors.

+1 :D

@Lunatique:

Why the red and blue lights? Do they help you concentrate? I would think they would get annoying after a while.

It's beautiful :cry:
Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.

Ah. They look huge in the pictures :)

I have a single 30" + 17" (notebook's monitor).

Definitely a beautiful setup. Nice job!!!

Hey Lunatique!... there is some nice beauty shoots in there! I like the "macro foggy" ones :wink: ...

Good job...I also agree about the insulated room, since I did this myself.... It's amazing how much clearer the stereo image gets when there is less noise...and it's amazing how much noise computers can make...even if there said to be quiet one's... 8)

I will try also to do some pics...My main control room is camera ready, but now there is 2 of my other rooms that are just too crowded with old analog stuff and boxes...but as soon as I get them clean-up...I'll post some...

The lights are all controlled by a DMX-192 console. I can turn them on/off, change colors, set color-fading times, set it to respond to sound or MIDI messages. I do have normal lights in the studio too--I usually use those. The U.S.S. Enterprise lights only come on when I feel like taking a voyage to where no man has gone before. ;)

Here is what I am using at the moment.

Needs better lighting and ventilation. The whole room is concrete floor and drywall so it's like a blank canvas to create some acoustic treatments. That will take some time to do :)
