aciddose wrote:ancient. it still compiles on linux, it's just that the gui code doesn't work correctly and i'm not going to have time to recode it all. due to that in addition with the fact it works PERFECTLY using the wine wrappers there is absolutely no point in doing a linux version at this time.

the core of xhip and the guis are all 100% portable - there is absolutely no system dependent code what-so-ever. all system code is contained in the external library and it is all modular (in the form of abstracted c++ classes.)

i could compile the latest version on linux, you'd just need to convince me as to exactly why that would serve any purpose at all.
just wanted to try it in the native version of xt2.
i thought there was an old version allready compiled. no prob.
i'll stick to wine.

btw those choir examples u posted in dsp forum are quite impressive . :-o

try to model a solo voice, then use unison. often really nasal and non-human sounds produce the best choir sounds when unison is used. gsoto's patch used a very nasal pulse with a notch filter on it, my patch uses a square wave with detuned self osc. you already know the 'male' patch of course which makes a great unison if you add some randomization using the modulators and noise or random waveforms.

use a small amount of keyboard track to desync the modulators and prefer 'random' unison pitch above 'detune'.

Do the parameters like unison count and play mode (mono, poly, etc.) save with the patch now? The version I dl'd from earlier this year didn't.

Sorry if this was answered above but I'd rather not wade through this giant thread for the answer.
A well-behaved signature.

Thanks, aciddose!
"The Juno 60 was often incorrectly referred to as a synth. It is, in fact, a chorus unit with a synth attached." -PAK

no.

just check here for those sorts of things and feel free to suggest things if they aren't on the list but are important. just take note the synth itself is supposed to be locked down so i can't add anything that would ruin backwards compatibility. (can't change the number of parameters, names, or existing parameters and their ranges)

yeh i remember making some nice choir pads almost by accident testing the unison feature when it was first implemented.
on my portable i cant really use xhips unison (too heavy)...so i'll have to just resort to a chorus effect or dust off synth1 for choirs.

ps: your demos are much better than anything ymo ever did. (although it was 30 years ago)

Post

the ymo thing was just because i happened to be playing the album :hihi:

http://xhip.cjb.net/temp/public/.audio/samber1.mp3

the square two fingered arp was inspired by ymo. (not to mention the style)

(i just read some posts from someone who had apparently been banned from kvr, and the posts disappeared... anywhere here are my answers to his questions as far as i can remember.. the posts are gone so i can't remember exactly what he said in them or quote/copy the post to make sure..)

- it's all just a matter of the way you treat it - treat it like an analog synth and you'll have no problems at all.

- there is no velocity or bender or any other controller routing.

- the synth is very complex for a software synthesizer, the way the controls are set up you have enormous routing flexibility hidden in only a few controls. you might need to relearn some of what you have experienced with other subtractives because xhip goes around the world a few more times extra where other "amazing" synths only go another two steps.

- for centering and jumping and that kind of nonsense, that's the older version of the synth. there are only 256 possible positions for each control so having more accuracy won't help you at all, you're always limited to 256 values. new versions will fix this issue.

- issues related to the gui like the way knobs work or the way text is printed are not things i manage, you should consider exactly what needs to be changed to allow you to configure the gui the way you want it and then let the gui authors know about it. posting once in the thread is probably good enough for the issues you've mentioned since we're already aware of all these issues.

- you can use fxp or fxb, but they will be less forward compatible than my patches are. if you select one version of xhip and just use it without upgrading on all the revisions and alphas (which are NOT supposed to be for public use anyway!) you shouldn't have any problems.

- don't expect things out of xhip and don't expect things to get done or changed to make it work the way you want it to. first of all i have hardly any time to work on xhip anyway. secondly my style is to give maximum flexibility, so for example if you want rotation, left/right and hybrid modes for knobs on the gui i'll decide to implement cubase's knob setting rather than configure it just the way you like it. (then you'll need to take it up with the author of your host to implement this vst feature..)

- it's great to have feedback, but with these types of issues please check the faq http://xhip.cjb.net/xhip/faq and let me know if you have a question that wasn't correctly answered there before you post these types of long questions in the thread.

can somebody clarify the if the dropbox thing where it says, for example under audio out envelope [gate, gate, a], instead of [gate, a, b] is a xhip bug or a bug in the branis gui? I'm using the latest of both on XT2. This thread is long and confusing.

EDIT: I'd also be willing to work on the code for the Branis gui if this is the case.

drop boxes are not fully implemented yet....he's still workin on the GUI code for that..they work...they just display the wrong names...but once u select something the correct name shows. so u just have to click about a few times before u know where everything is....
it will be fixed soon i guess.

Post

cool, okay thats what I thought, and i do realize they allow you to select whatever. I was just mainly wondering if it was something I could do, because it seems like something trivial, because all aspects are correct except for the printing of the words.

not to troll this thread, but i wanted to say yo xhip, your synth is one of the best i have ever used as a guitar synthesist, the latency is minimal, it tracks fuckin great, and it follows all the stuff i throw at it.

really nice, and the one i have is an early beta (2004-5,maybe?)

just wanted to say thank you mate, i have had a LOT of fun with it.

This patch sounds decent with 3x unison:
gsoto_synth_ahhs_2.adxi
gsoto_synth_ahhs_2.mp3
