Hi all,

I'm fairly new here. I create mostly ambient and ethno-ambient soundscapes, although sometimes it veers dangerously close to New Age :-o..... Actually the first track I posted was an entry in the December contest,

Winter's Gift

Thanks for the votes and feedback on that. I wanted to post a few more tracks to get some feedback. I've been playing music in more traditional bands as a guitar player for about 25-30 years, but only in the last few years did I start getting involved in electronic music and only in the last few months have I somehow overcome the hurdle that has allowed me to actually complete tracks that I don't mind sharing with the world. So anyway, here is some of my work:

Chronoswamp

Chinabox

Liquid Dharma

Suspended Ascent

Mind the Gap

I really appreciate any and all feedback/criticism etc. , as it is what helps me to learn and grow. Thanks! :D

Hi atomicskunk,
I listened through these and, at first, they didn't grab me. But yesterday Chinabox grabbed me in the music tracker and wouldn't let me go. So, I revisited them all this morning. Gorgeous and relaxing sounds. Good production, too. I can really hear the hard work you put into all of these and just wanted to chime in with you before this slips off into page 765.
Thanks for sharing your creativity.

Thanks so much. I appreciate the input. I guess I'll need to work harder on grabbing people right from the outset!

Sorry to have taken so long to respond to these.

Chinabox: This builds nicely and the parts all hang together very well. I like it. Of these (and not counting Winter's Gift) this one is my favorite.

Swampworld
(or Chronoswamp: the filename and tag info are different): Again it builds nicely. The nature sounds had me skeptical at first, but as the piece went on I was won over.

Liquid Dharma
: For my taste this takes too long to build to something more than nature sounds. Once it does, though, I like it until the vocal (?), at which point it loses me again and for my taste takes too long to fade out. Some very nice sounds in there—I really like the break part, for lack of a better term, that starts at 4:24 and goes into the vocal part—but much of this is just not my thing, I guess.

Mind the Gap: Again, too slow a build-up for me (I'm impatient apparently). This one sounds as good as the others, but it isn't my thing at all musically, so I don't know what to say about it.

Suspended Ascent: This is pretty but too uneventful for me.

I hope the comments don't come across as too negative. Though some of the pieces won't be going in my frequently played pile (Chinabox might), I enjoyed listening to all of them and look forward to hearing more from you.

I appreciate the comments very much. I feel very new to all of this. Even though I've been playing guitar for the last 30 years or so, this is my first real attempt at creating electronic music and the first stuff I've been able to complete that I think is at least worthy of "putting out there" for some feedback. I'm still trying to "find my voice" as it were, but in the last few months I've been able to find a workflow that allows me to organically create this music and then tweak and refine it to the point where I can call it finished. That was a major breakthrough for me as my hard drive is littered with gigabytes of unfinished tracks and half-baked ideas that I could never seem to expand upon. Now I need to take a step back and work on taking this to the next level. Thanks again. :)
