Now B4 U start talking crazy people, I know Twin is not a Moog emulation.But do you think if FabFilter called Twin a Moog emulation you would fall for it?I think you would,because it can sound like a Moog to me.But I have to admit,if it was a Moog emulation it would'nt be the best.But still very close to Minimonsta.

Just thinking...so what do you think.

Yes, as long as you need only 2 Oscillators, it does classic Moog sounds easy, no problem. Couple those filters with that portamento and you have instant funk. It also does a very good 303. I wrote an entire song using a Moog style patch on the Twin, and most people think it's Minimonsta. Ofcourse, Minimonsta can do some things that Twin can't and vice versa.

Personally I think Twin sounds more analog than my mopho. I don't have a moog though. But neither of them have that gritty electric sound that I associated with old analogs. Not that there's anything wrong with that

It's strange how different musical taste can be.

I for my person don't like the sound of Fabfilter Twin.
In my ears it sounds like plastic. No life in the sound.
But I am not a big fan of Minimonsta too.
For me such synth like Predator and Albino 3 have a better sound.
But it's only my opinion.

+1, but I find it harsh... I find all fabfilters harsh. they were recently doing an xmas sale, i demo'd it all... too harsh!!

I demoed the filter and delay and bought them within 10 minutes. Great sound!

All synths are Moog emulations. Except for the occasional 303 emulation.

I sometimes wonder how much better the world would be if the idiots at Keyboard, Sound On Sound etc. didn't compare every fraking synth to one of them, depending on the features, for nearly two decades now.

Twin > Moog emulations. Though I never cared for Moogs to begin with. I like Korg MS-20 better than Minimoog.

Fabfilter has the best filters and Twin is a powerhouse. Volcano 2 is a killer plug-in as well. Put some effects on it and it really starts to shine.

Then again, maybe I like it because it is a bit harsh, but that isn't the word I'd use.

Twin at 96khz is killer. If you don't want such a gritty sound i'd suggest using a filter other than the default "fabfilter one" - it can really crush your high end - not that this is bad all the time!

I always loved twin, but running it at 96khz is mind boggling - it's unison on a saw is giGANTOSAWRUS.

I love the sound of Twin... Its a very capable and versatile synth. It can be "harsh" because its a dry synth, which is one of the reasons why I love this.

Many of the other synths mentioned as not being as "harsh" have a lot to do with on-board FX, like reverb and such. If you really want to get that exact sound, then drop a reverb effect after Twin and there you go.

One of the big reasons why Twin stands out so much to me is just that it feel like a real instrument. Finishing off the right sound can be a lot like finishing off a guitar track... well that's my take on it.

As far as comparisons to Moog.... well, again its capable but I honestly think it deserves a bit more credit than that and I'm happy its not advertised as yet another emulation, (since we have Arturia for that). This thing really does produce some very nice sounds especially when working with other FX, especially Volcano 2 or Timeless.

...on that note, I don't know how Volcano 2 or Timeless could be considered too harsh? Both are very versatile (kind of a theme with FF) and can produce some very lush-warm sounds in addition to completely f**king things up. Volcano 2 in particular can be used in so many ways that just makes it one of the best filters out there.
