That's a pity. I was considering making a template for using it in NI KORE but there's not so much incentive doing it for the full version as Kore can't load its patches but it can for the free one.

is it just me, or do the presets (besides big tone)in helix suck terribly  serious this guy needs to hire some more sound designers.

It should have been priced so as not to compete with the alternatives, ie Zebra, Surge, Alchemy and Galadiator.

I have purchased all these, and looked so many times at Helix..... At least I have confidence that Urs will still be around in 2010.... Not sure about Helix though :(

If it was priced the same as FireBird, I would already be looking to buy the expansion packs....

gladiator east helix for breakfast  i think im just upset because helix was priced so high. i think it was misleading for the developer to announce helix as freeware, or imply that it would be, and then, because people liked it so much, decided to go payware and pricy at that. but hes just trying to pay the bills :|

Coincidentally, both Zebra and Surge has been getting lots of critique for their presets.

FWIW, If I remember correctly, Jonas has said he thinks sales are quite good, no?

It's quite a matter of taste. I love Surge and Helix, but find Gladiator to be like maybe... a 3.5/5 :) For ME that is, I completely get that others love it, because it's a good synth.

Haven't really used Zebra though :( But I don't get what the deal with the "I don't get why I should choose this over this" discussion that revolves around lots of plugins. Don't get it then, if you're already happy with what you got :)

Don't be a hater man :) I don't say toyota is a shit car just because it's not for me.

Honestly BigTone is the most experienced sound designer of the bunch, but I think Adam, Reason and MaliceX have done some really cool presets too. Maybe BigTones style is more suiting to you?

I know I appreciate making my own presets in Helix, if you get the "hang" of it, maybe you would too. It might be true Helix is a synth for "tweakers" who wants to get deeper into experimenting and synthesis then average joe.

Well, it won't feed the kids, but it's a nice motivation :)

[edit]"feeding the kids" is a figure of speech. I don't have kids... especially not starving ones :)[/edit]

Yeah, we get it. You're broke and you want everything for free or cheap. Perhaps you make what you're worth. It's so cliché trying to cut someone down who's actually out in the world working hard to make something. Is Audjoo "THE MAN" trying to "keep you down?" Chicken Muffin, what do you do?

The world is full of freeware right now. Download some of it or spark up your beloved Gladiator (did your mum buy you that for Christmas?) and make some music instead of trying to cut down a small independent software developer. If you think that $149 is a lot of money then perhaps you should try working harder or spending less money on pot and KFC. Christ, when I was working a paper route at 14 I was able to save up for a Richenbacker 360 guitar and a Vox Amp.

Frankly, I wasn't all that impressed with the free beta of Helix and I kind of wondered what the fuss was about. When the commercial version was released I figured I'd give it a shot and it was one of those "I can't stop myself" moments where before I knew it I was buying it. It's an amazing synth. It's sounds amazing and is super light on the CPU for what it does. I happen to think the presets are brilliant as well. The UI is nothing to write home about, but it's basically fine.

Thanks Jonas, I hope one day the proceeds of your labour of love do feed your kids.

I think the MaliceX presets are among the best i have heard.
(Btw, i have improved and updated mine, if anyone is interested)

I still hope that a bass pack preset bank will be available at some point (with less 80's sounds and more electronica/dubstep sounds), but the Helix preset management is so good that i could make my own folder with a compilation gathering all the sounds i like. So i don't lose too much time browsing dozens of banks.

I have Zebra and GLadiator, and i think Helix is well worth the comparison, it is definitively in the same league.
Zebra has more and better presets indeed, in a wider range of genres, but once you 've made your selection in your own folder, Helix is still having a good bunch of very good sounds to start with.
Gladiator is easier to read, understand and dial/set, indeed, but i think it is mostly a matter of Helix having more of everything so more parameters = more time to set up, and a less easy-to-read interface.
And helix has a damn massive sound with no cpu :D
