Is this the coolest thing ever or what ?

That interview video has a very strange stereo image, it makes me dizzy just listening to it!

I'm dizzy too but assumed it was from the excitement.

Just imagine the possibilities. It has USB, wireless,GPS modules,Camera modules, the Von Hippel module,touch screen module,projector module.

You could make a controller for your analog modular or control your DAW wireless. With the projector and camera module you could do a low cost ReacTable. To name a few.

EDIT: If you connect some pots and faders to the Von Hippel module you can do your own midi controller. Wireless should you want to. Or just have cute blinking LEDs in time with your music. Are there pink LEDs?

Thats cool piece of tech was introduced at last years CES. I'm interested to see if it was upgraded for this years (which starts today actually)...

but will have an eye on it

reasons:
- programming is done with java
- too expensive for what it is

- java is a pain for hardware programming for serious programmers, and its too complicated for amateur programmers.

- you pay for design, not function. if you really want to 'invent' new tools, go for arduino.

Well it's about a 1000 times easier to program.

What's the problem with Java ? All i see is nagging and very little actual facts/opinions/whatever.

They are really expensive. You pay for convenience.

No interest here. I still prefer the old PCB etching and component assembling and soldering, and you a nice processor and code in ASM or C

No problem with Java at all. Just that people have some preconceived ideas about it's runtime performance compared to compiled languages. Also the fact that java imposes OOP paradigms make a lot of people used to program in C feel uneasy with developpment.

I understand those who think etching their own PCBs and programming their Microcontrollers with C or ASM. That is indeed awesome and a lot cheaper than this one. However the deal is not all people is capable of such things nor interested.

The cool thing about this is that it is a "real product" that is customizable to such an extent. You can't really compare it to an Aurdino,can you ?
No soldering,ready made case, ready made peripherals that slot right in with the correct drivers (or whatever you want to call it).

I would rather compare it to an iPhone/iPod touch. Not that it is a phone or mp3 player (though it can be both) but that it can be programmed. There's plenty of apps for the iPhone and i just see this as a much more interesting platform for many uses. There are some pretty nifty iPhone apps. Just imagine what you could do with this.

BTW did you see that video with the Von Hippel dude ? He kinda explained it better than i ever could. It is an interesting paradigm shift. I've read several books on the same topic. Not so much about gizmos,more about well let's just call it Web 2.0 (though i think that's a rather silly name).

It's kind of the hardware equivalent of Youtube or whathaveyou.

Noone can predict anymore what is going to be popular so you just make an as free and expandable product as possible and see what the users come up with. We won't be told how to use a product anymore. It's the new thing.
