I'd use the NHS, its free. It does the job....most of the time.

That's a rather extreme example though, its a bit like demanding a piece of freeware to be just as stable and feature packed as something worth hundreds of pounds. you get what you pay for, it just a business afterall.

Didn't mean to upset you by the way, you clearly just want XT to be better.

Cheers.

Agreed. Reaper can be had for $50 (less than eXT2) and is pretty darn stable. I'm not knocking eXT2 mind you as I just purchased it to use along with Reaper. I like the streamlined interface and seems to have a good sound engine. I like the included drum rack and synth and for what I use it for seems stable enough. I don't think I could use it solely though.

True, but I once wasted money and time learning sonar and ended up hating it. eventually I tried XT2 and loved it so I suppose it just what ever clicks with you the most in the end.

Shag: I believe it's exactly that which has people so angry over the current state of xt. We're all here because xt's what we want, and I would have left long ago if it weren't for that fact. If it starts shaping up, you'll see the posts become a lot less angry very quickly.

no worries mate im generally rude, im not upset.
mostly my bitter mood is because even with the bugs and shit xt2 is the perfect sequencer, just unusable as is...

and its kinda sad to see your favourite piece of software to be abandoned when a little bit of work could correct every nuance. anyway in the todays DAW market there are some offers which are similarly cheap like xt2 ,just more feature rich and bugfree!

but unfortunately, they are not for me. xt2 is the ultimate daw idea, but one of the worst worked out one... sad but true, to *quite Metallica lol...

*quote, not quite... ouch, i cannot the errors i make :S.

heh heh, glad to hear you're not upset

I personally find it quite useable as is, but maybe the current bugs affect the way you work more than me. I'd imagine that different people use differnt features when they work.

Double fingers crossed for 2.5 then eh?

nah that's not stupid, it makes perfect sense.

Hopefully with all the business networking they have been doing with behringer (from about novemeber I think, when the last beta turned up) will equal more wages for them to do some more coding and improve xt2. maybe that's what 2.5 will bring.

As I said long time before, Jorgen could have taken the way of abandon it's software and work for a big label like many others did. Just this fact gives me hope. I'm pretty sure he's not less upset about all the bugs than we. So I think we all want XT to be the number one

This sums up my position very nicely. There is a lot I like about eXT, at least potentially.

I am a little concerned about the structure of the software development - it doesn't appear to be keeping to a well considered methodology and consistent direction. I have done some software engineering, though it is definitely not my speciality. Are there any software developers here who have an opinion on this?

I had really hoped for eXT to be a rock solid, well structured, modular system, with a good plug in architecture. I do feel that there is probably a bit too much emphasis on stacking in features. I think the DAW world is already so rich in high quality plug-ins, that eXT would offer more value if it just had everything else well designed, stable, intuitive, and with fast efficient multi-threaded code.

Although I don't like to be too critical of development of a project I'm not involved with, I do think things like the handling of MIDI interfaces shows a weakness in the planning of the design. Perhaps I'm just missing something though.

Maybe my idea would not be an effective business strategy; I don't know. It would have kept me more satisfied than having the built in features though. I think features could be added later as plug-ins which are included with the license purchase.

I also think effort may be stretched a bit thin, across features and platforms, as well as more general business administration, marketing etc. I'm sure it is not easy to handle all of that.

Anyway, I still like the sequencer, and I am excited about the prospects of a major update. I don't mind being optimistic at all. If it can give me what I thought I was paying for, all those months ago, all the better.

Cheers,

Xiombarg

A bit ot but not much - will v2.5 be available for free upgrade to all that have v2? I just purchased eXT yesterday and would like to be eligible for v2.5 as a free upgrade. (actually I must have an in-between version as it shows I have v2.07 and the main screen is missing a couple of icons - the two faders icon and what looks like a wave type icon - that I see shown from the web site's v2).

I love XT. It's so sweet and cuddly. I just hope this upcoming release does NOT iron out all the bugs cause then this forum will be boring. I like reading all the whiny posts.
