the demo and release have been updated with more patches and two minor changes.. pitch bend now applies to sequence when the seq is active, and lfo key sync is no longer derived from the seq gate events

Hi!
I've downloaded the horizondemo and tried it with SAVIHost - the first time there was a message box telling me an exception has occurred plus some CPU-Register-Values... The second time I was able to see the gui. It told me: Host must be running... Then the host crashed.
I don't know if it's a SAVIHost-bug... I'll check it in Cubase.
Cheers
Sören

i am not able to improve the implementation, which is why i suggest that demoing include saving and reloading a project before spending money. it basically will work with some setups and won't with others

hi rurik,
i think the synth sounds amazing, i'm really thinking about buying it,
however, would you like please like to consider some kind of random patch
generator system on your software like hg fortune implements on his synths,
to be honest I am too stupid to understand the matrix on horizon...

I get silence on mixdown. Multiple sorts of crashes/freezes. Even running two voices. Rurik, could you talk about the system you tested the plug on before release? I keep trying because I love the synth. I would seriously consider upgrading my system to run Horizon properly (it's time!).

xp and dual core.
thanks for the good sound comment
sorry.
i spent a month on the shared arrays before the release and did the best i could with my knowledge and resources. perhaps a more experienced programmer may appreciate the calibre of my conception
at some point, and wish to improve it
jeff has spend years of weekends now working on the dual core issue.
i have enough time to show humans better ways to do things. i don't have time to indulge in human customs, like proprietisation of memory handling routines.
many programmers conceive of development as a maturation process. i am not a human soul and participate in culture heuretically. at least when potentiated inclusively in the medium of exchange.
let's put some little bold tabs around that, because it's a good one and people might like to know what a creamy universe it could be if they paid attention to good ideas by intelligent space people like me..

Sorry I wasn't that specific. Tested on two Pentium 4s and one dual. Same results. No issues in Vista then? Could some other XOXOS heads chime in on their systems where Horizon works great. This would be helpful to other users as some have problems in dual and some not at all.

I don't use it anymore, because I'm scared to. Saving it for when I get a Receptor.
I'm a Reaper user, on my single core.win xp works fine.
Vista-dual core, the best solution is load an instance of chainer, then go to task manager and shut off one infinity(one of the cores), then load horizon
If I do it wrong the whole computer restarts, so I'm just not using it.

using a vst wrapper like ext or chainer _might_ make a difference because the fault is in the handling of shared data. nice sig
it's no pleasure to engage in pr with my penchant for.. "revealing the unfamiliar in a provocative manner"
here's the story to this point:
horizon took a little more than 2 months to implement, the primary delay being that i had to share the waveform data tables, which are written when the vst loads, between voices, in order to avoid a 1 minute load time.
i've been programming since 1983, though my profound poverty brought on by being uncool, and paying off loans for music hardware in 90s left me $40 to eat on a month for years, without money to purchase books.
you know it was almost three years before i figured out how to install the synthedit SDK. all in the past.
why am i going into this? to illustrate the benefits of synergy - sharing resources today means that 10 years from now, society gives back. i surely wish i'd been clued into how to do basic things long ago. if only c++ books hadn't been $30 or more (which was a LOT of money all through my 20's and into my 30's here in tucson).
anyway.
i can't do anything more to it.
i achieved the goal of introducing the concept (unison + scaled seq = probably much used tool)
i achieved the goal of avoiding commercial success
there's scant chance of horizon making a future dent in my rent, and given the distaste for social redaction amongst commercial entities, there's no chance of more capable synth companies making a future dent in manifesting xoxos-derived tech under application of their "own" sensibility. so, while i am unwilling to publish the source so that my humble coding will not be emulated, the source for the unison module is available on request to those interested in fixing it or deriving similar projects*
*remember that appropriating the work of magic unicorns and charging unkindly amounts for it will effect (with an 'e') your karma accordingly.
oc it's already been inspected by jeff, peter and i, so it would take a fair hand, and i would expect anyone with that capacity to be otherwise engaged.
it's probably most productive to start writing your favourite commercial company, and telling them that they should make their items more like mine.

Horizon is an amazing tool. It's clear it's development was loaded with problems that will no longer be solved. It will run fine on a machine I borrowed today
(vista sp1 pentium dual core 3gb). I didn't mean to touch on a sore subject.
I had problems on my little machines and just thought I'd feel out what the developer and other users were experiencing with that mother. The basic thinking was, shit, instead of buying yet another hardware vintage or that new dave smith thing I'd finally man up and get something hardware-wise that could run Horizon.
I felt that maybe Horizon exposed problems in my thinking about system hardware
and config and maybe I had cheaped out for too long.
Whatever. Another dead end? If I drop the 4 bills on a box that could run it
that will leave me 40 bucks for food til Feb 15. Mmmm Maruchan instant lunch!

i'm not sore, it takes a bit of wording as discussing the deficits of one's product is not done frequently in the vst marketplacePH4SER wrote: I didn't mean to touch on a sore subject.
while there's some fair satisfaction to releasing a basic synth with features that the flagship companies "should" be offering, and to staying humble when i might not have (hehe) i really would have preferred to have given every user a satisfying experience, alas
my advice:
horizon is ephermal (as the name suggests)
don't invest in catering a system to horizon, wait 6 months until something better comes along.
in the meantime, it might not hurt to say things like "boy xoxos horizon runs shitty but there's some good ideas that would make your big synth company products more enjoyable."
the panning and detune algs are very simple, they just designed somewhat "conscientiously" to avoid less musical phenomenon, without making the user tune and pan each voice manually.
