In response to a query by Pleasurehead re. adding an effect to a snare drum to simulate bottom skin 'fizz' .... see

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 49#3404249

... I created a Vst which will play a sample, triggered with the peak of an incoming audio signal.
So, with relevance to Pleasureheads issue, you can create a sample of a snare hit miked from underneath, and have it triggered by the snare track ( recorded from the top skin ) on the recording. Alternatively, you can replace the snare with a sample of, ...well anything you like!

And here it is! ....and its free!!!!

Load a sample, then set the input sens for the incoming signal. The input sens will need to be set with some care. Too low, and the quieter drum hits ( or other sound ) will not trigger the sample ..... too much, and the sample will intermittently repeat .... having said that, the repeat effect can be quite rhythmic and interesting in its own way.

I've had a lot of fun with this plug, and realised some exciting possibilities for its development .... but for now, the pitch shift and modulation are entertaining enough to keep you amused for long enough :)

Click on my sig and go to the vst fx folder to download. ( I'm gradually moving files to another hosting site ...in addition to mediafire. Meanwhile, if you have trouble downloading from mediafire, PM me with an email contact and I'll send you the plug )
Have fun!

.... bit more info. It is a mono effect in that it will stop and retrigger the sample each time a peak is detected from the audio signal. Stereo samples are maintained as stereo.

So interesting effects can be achieved by using a reverse cymbal triggered by the bass drum in that it will quietly rise from each BD beat to a volume dictated by the space between beats ( and the pitch control ).

Can be used to effectively add 'click' to the attack of bass drums/snares etc, or various 'tails' to same.

Synth stabs are also worth a try synced to elements of the drum kit.

I found short a short burst of white noise sample very entertaining with the pitch mod applied and synced to the snare ....I'm sure there are loads of cool possibilities .... just get the beast going with a drum beat, try out various wav samples and play around!!

Tested and worked great in FLS .... not tested in any other daw as yet. Be good to hear whether or not all is well with other hosts.

Does anyone know how to embed a sample into a vst?

Having a lot of fun developing this Tweedle Dee thing using a white noise sample with filtering and pitch mod .... Thought a good follow up would be an audio hi-hat generator/companion called 'Mad hatter!' .... then I might be compelled to do a whole Alice in Wonderland bundle :D

Alias in wonderland? Kit-R-pillar? Queen of Arps? ... OK enough! .... just be nice to be able to offer a vst fx with a white noise sample incorporated .... hmm, of course I could just whack in an osc set to white noise .... Ooooh too many choices! .. help!!!

.... And here is 'Tweedle Duo' .....

Same as 'Dee' but with plays two samples. So now you dont have the dilemma re. whether you add some snap to the attack, or whoosh to the tail .... you can do both! :)

Aaaaargh! Pitch 2 doesn't work! .... I'll go fix it!

OK, sorted .... and sounding glorious!!!!

Now posted!

hey guy

not a single reply, i'll try it later when i get home. for SE you add the wavefile in to the embedded properties on the VST save as dialog i believe. not sure though. SE noob here.

Post

thanks I will try it ! :)

Cheers grymmjack, I'll look into that .... I'll maybe post my query on the Mod Synth forum ... that's whwere its most likely to find an answer ... as opposed to buried in a thread on a different subject :)

Hope you like it damstraversaz!

Right, here's the plan!

I'm gonna add amp mod to the outputs to give a bit more 'humanisation'.
I'm gonna add sample and hold options to the mod level controls so the pitch of the samples will be held steady for their duration, but will be reset to the LFO cycle when triggered.
I'm gonna add a gate to each sample's output to limit the duration of play after the trigger.
I'm thinking about adding a filter, but wonder if this is necessary since daws usually have filter on every channel, and if not, users should be familiar enough with their daw's filter options.

I hope to have this 'deluxe' version built by tomorrow, but I will check this thread periodically to pick up on any ideas/requests you may want to throw in.

you can't embed a wav file into a vst, well you can,but it just unpacks it when used and takes up more bites that if you just put it in the folder that gets created for the ghost modules, then it should find it there.
if that makes sense.:)
you could embed sf2 .

Post

Cheers Spacedad, I'll maybe just have to try some other way around the issue.

.... anyway, back to Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Duo, but more to the point, .....'Tweedle Dee-Luxe' ...!

I still have a couple of tiny issues to fix, but its nearly there ( still time to hit me with any ideas you might like to see included though! ).

...So just to tease you in the meantime, here's a terrible screenshot.

Image

..... and heres an mp3 demo you might want to listen to or cut into samples/loops for your own use.

http://www.mediafire.com/?4jyzwnmgnyz

The demo track starts off with a drum beat which loops unchanging throughout, then Tweedle Dee-Luxe cycles through 8 presets loaded with different samples and loops, and synced to the bass drum throughout.

So enjoy! .... dont think it'll be long 'til the plug is ready for release

Post

why not use a sf oec, embed that, then have a switch to use the waveplayer to load own sounds?

Post

Yeah spacedad, I might give that a go .... it's early days yet though, but the ideas are swinging towards possibly having an osc anyway, so we'll see what pans out .... at least I have options, so can't complain! :)
