Same dongle.

BTW: Fredo from the Nuendo forum did openly discuss the automation node editing resolution. That discussion was met with equal parts hostility, and apathy... depending upon how important one's need was/is for absolute node editing accuracy.

But is it in percentage or values with C4 for VST2.

I've run Cubase since SX2 (PC only), and it's always been rock solid for me. Crash issues I've had are almost always related to specific plugs that I've been able to isolate (a couple of new NI update releases some years back, for example).

I've always suspected that those with instability problems with Cubase fall into two categories: 1) inadequate computer specs or 2) unauthorized copies of either Cubase or plugs. I'm not saying that's EVERYONE, just that IMHO if you took out these two categories, the remaining number would be a very small one.

That said, I'm not an engineer or a coder. My needs are fairly simple--MIDI and audio recording. Every other feature is icing on the cake. I don't get nearly as deep on the features as many here (i.e. I don't need the surgical automation that many require, etc.). But I do appreciate that where bugs exist on features that are offered, they should be fixed appropriately.

For my simple needs, I really only crave one simple feature. Patch management for plugins currently stinks, in my humble view. Time was, I could use a plug and save the settings as a patch -- within that plug -- with just a click or two. Now, (since C4) I cannot consistently get any of my plugs to default to their own patch folder for saving. I don't know why this is, or if I'm missing something that others are already working around, but what I do get is an endless list of folders for just about everything on my hard drive.

Most frustrating is actually my favorite C4 improvement: Track presets. This SHOULD be a 1-click affair, but alas, it is not. Instead of defaulting to a pre-determined folder, I am presented with HUNDREDS of folders (most of which have nothing to do with Cubase) which I must scroll through and choose. Why can't I get a simple default folder? Or, at the least, a folder tree?

If you are reading this and laughing at me because this is a simple thing that I forgot to check off in the options section, please enlighten me. If that is the case, I would have hoped that it could have been implemented in a more intuitive way. But really, it's the only thing that bothers me about C4. Which, overall, is a good thing.

So many plugins, so little time...

I agree with both, and it goes to something I eluded to earlier, workflow, editing, managment, etc are the things I'd expect cubase users to want. Again, that's just me.

almost everyone works in a different way, a different workflow, a different amount of stress on their computer resources.......maybe the way you work never pushes cubase at all?

Well, I'm aware of the resources that I put on my projects. I think most people are. If you're running a P2 computer you can't expect to bathe everything in a WAVES chorus/delay/reverb sequence, now can you?

But that said, I think patch management is a fairly basic feature that, when properly implemented, doesn't even use any computer resources (or very little at the most). Hibidy's right. Unless I'm completely wrong about the way this works, it should be fixed and made easier.

But the reason it's not a dealbreaker for me is that so many other things in Cubase are just plain RIGHT.

The editing value is displayed in the 'event infoline' as a scale of 0-100 (or percentage if you'd like).

The value of whatever parameter is being automated (at the cursor position) is displayed in the track control section of the automation lane.

So if you're automating the frequency position of a bandpass eq, the editing data (in the event infoline) will be some integer between 0-100, but the parameter value (on the automation lane) will be in Hz.

So aside from the decreased editing resolution, not much has really changed since SX3.

Hope that helps.

by the way, I don't think we have an option to save to folders anymore, all is handled by mediabay. Also have you selected the category button when you are browsing sounds or presets? It allows you to select instrument, timbre type of sound etc and can hopefully quickly get you where you want to go. if you know all this already please ignore me this once :-)

all I know is preset management is "tricky" at best. It's not that it doesn't work, it's that it should be less fiddly and more one step......imo.

All the mediabay-alike functions we may find in whatever hosts (Logic, Kore, Cubase) seem to allow less and less user defineabililty. You can save some stuff and it'll get saved to whatever the developer might think of being the proper directory. Which, at least quite sometimes, is absolutely ridiculous, as they think of us users being dumb idiots, not being able to do any even remotely decent data management on ourselves.
This might be a good thing for some newbies, but once you know of folder organisation and what not you just feel left out, treated like a retarded idiot, as there's hardly any advanced modes, so you really gotta dive deep into your OS, using shortcuts, aliases and what not. There's LOADS of room for improvement on any of these systems.

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Yeah, what they said! :hihi:

I find my data management does suck. I've all these "guitar x.x" files and midi files that are not named correctly

At least I'm thinking about it, which actually mean that there is a chance it'll get corrected

I'm still using Cubase SL. Has it gotten any better?
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Indeed. This is particularily tough on a Mac, where you often have things like two "library" folders, apps can exist outside of the "Applications" folder, or just in "disk images", etc, and it's generally more difficult to figure out where things are. Mind you, I'm a noob. :D
