Cool update...too bad I just bought Pristine Space lately...anyway cool update...LawrenceF wrote:Start counting your spare change...What will be announced is a secret. We can announce several things: a new Wavelab, Sequel, Cubase, Nuendo, VST Instruments, new hardware etc. The only thing that I can say now already, Steinberg has it's 25 birthday now !
Please have a little patient for the moment, and wait till we (make) our announcements at the NAMM show.

But take note he said "can"... so... maybe not.
There is one thing I'm trying to correct in Cubase, it is the compatibility of QuickTime with Cubase 64bits...Since Cubase5 will be fully 64bits from start...which is really neet...I would like to know if we will be able to use QuickTime windows inside Cubase in 64bits?
I will read the manual I just download and check...but in case anyone got more info...I may try the Cubase forum also...

I'm NOT talking about the VST3 sidechaining here. I'm talking about sidechaining of VST2.x plugins, like it is possible in Sonar, ProTools, Reaper, Logic (AU), etc.zvenx wrote:what sidechaining? every vst3 plug in can do sidechaining.

The main consens was: if other hosts can do it with VST2.x plugins, why not Cubase, too?
There is still only the workaround with a quad-channel. And this also already caused some controversy over that the official boards with the release of the new Virus with the sidechaining "input".
So yeah... sad, but can't be helped. We can still hope for an implementation in C5.1, though I'm farily sure on the outcome already...

but if they have added it to vst3 and are encouraging developers to use vst3 do you realistically think they would fix it so it is done for vst2.x stuff?
I would safely put this in the not going to happen camp. Although I too wish it would happen because the vast majority of my favourite plugins are 2.4 or earlier.

I direct you to this thread in this case... many valid points stated:
http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=110210
I can only emphasize it again: if other hosts can do it, why is Steinberg like "only the VST3 technology is capable of doing that", if it's not really the case.
Again, just my 2c.

I think it it's not really about sidechaining but FULL FREE ROUTING. That's the actual limitation and that's why you can't do "real" sidechaining with VST2.x in Cubase.

you can already do sidechaining in c3/4 with vst2.4 units (see Blue Cat Audio site for details ) but it was a bit tricky ......
They solved the problem with vst3.0, while others solved the problem by a different object hierarchy. the interesting thing is that vst3 is an open format, wich can be used by any dev, opposed to : can you transpose Live sidechaining abilitities to any Vst. No you can only use it in Live.
just my 0.002 though,

Yeah, with the quad-channel/group/FX thing you CAN do sidechaining. But I ask myself still, why can other hosts do it that simple (with VST2.x), but not Steinberg. And I'm not the only one.
So I'd say, bM3w is on the right track: full free routing would be a great feature in Cubase - but that one's long gone.

I cannot say beyond a shadow of doubt, but I am guessing that once you start using the included vst3 compressor, and vintage compressor, you'll be more than satisfied with them. (though you'll have to accept the dark UI, even though it sounds like it's not your cup o tea).Compyfox wrote:I'm talking about sidechaining of VST2.x plugins, like it is possible in Sonar

I don't see what the problem is with sidechaining. It's not as if you need the creamiest, butteriest compressor to do ducking n shit anyway. The VST3 compressors in Cubase are more than up to the job and if for some reason they aren't then a Quadra Group'll do it for other VST2.4s. If you use sidechaining that much then having a Quadra Group set up in your template shouldn't be a big deal.
There is an issue with the Virus TI in that audio cannot be routed directly to a VSTi. Native Instruments have always gotten around this by providing FX versions of their VSTis so that they have an audio input (MIDI tracks can still play them) so, failing Access providing this tried and tested method, energyXT or Plogue Bidule can be used to host the Virus on an audio or group track.
It's great to have one (or two) of those hosts anyway.
So back to the real issue - where the f-ck is the multi track warping?

Also there is another question concerning compatibility of Rewire in Cubase5 64bits...I didn't saw anything mentionning this in their manuals...
Anybody knows something?
Basically, does compatibility issues in Cubase4 64bit have been corrected in the Cubase5 64bit version?

Sidechaining requires two inputs. In the earlier versions of Cubase like SX, regular audio tracks only had one (or one pair) of potential inputs... so in order to have access to the second sidechain input bus on a plug with two input busses you had to use a Quad group bus (two input paths), that provided access to that secondary input... the key input.
It's real sidechaining and always has been. Reaper does it much the same way as Cubase SX did with the advantage of having the secondary input bus "living" on the same audio track channel. Other than that, basic ducking or whatever works the exact same way as in Cubase SX. You must first "open up" that second bus so you can hit the key input.
Reaper's superior routing obviously allows doing more things with sidechains than ducking or basic sidechains though.
Anyway... I suspect if Sonar (etc, etc) allows sidechaining with VST 2.x directly on the same audio channel it's the daw, not the VST spec.
They obviously just open up another input bus for an audio channel bus/track when a plugin with a secondary input is inserted. Or it's always there. Much like the Cubase quad group bus but on that same track. Steiny apparently didn't engineer their audio tracks for that.
It's a routing / design / engineering thing. Not a VST 2.x thing.

Which interprets into: "Hay, why notz start an emo-blog, LOL?!"
Seriously:
- If I wouldn't like Steinberg, I wouldn't use their tools at all (Cubase, Wavelab and some numerous VST/VSTi)
- If I'd hate C5 so much, I wouldn't get it at all either - but it is funny that I preordered it already
Looks to me that you obviously only read what you wanted to read and posted to troll only (which your registration date and post count confirms). Cat bites it's own tail... I keep my mouth shut, I don't need this kindergarden BS.
Happy discussing.
