The 2.5 release crash in Wine whenever I try to record audio, and the native Linux wont connect to Jackd :-(

I have no problems with the beta from nov. 14, so I'll just stick with that for now, but still... strange

btw. This is on UbuntuStudio 8.04

Post

Do you use the jack enabled libaam.so which you can download from energy-xt.com?

Ext 2.5 connects fine to the jackserver here.

I have tried both the new one that came with 2.5 and a self-compiled (the one I use in the nov. 14 beta), none of them works with the 2.5 Linux version.

I mostly use the wine-version (I use a lot of win-vsti's), and am quite happy to stay with the old beta, but do find it kind'a strange that none of the 2.5 releases work on my pc.

btw. my snd-card is a m-audio Audiophile 24/96 and I use the latest wine from wine-repros.

what error does jack give you?

I haven't used wine ever, so I can't help you there.

I wouldn't worry about the 2.5 release, as far as I can tell it's the same as the last beta (including all the bugs), so you're not really missing out.

there should be a Linux/ubuntu STICKY with clear wine-wineasio instructions.
(or possibly an allready compiled script for wineasio) cos for linux noobie its not easy to get it working.
i tried and the thought of wastin hours tryin to set it up made me run back to xp.
i want to give it another go....if theres some straight forward instructions for ubuntu i'd love to read it .

AllenPOPO Have made a great how-to in this forum, I have simplyfied it a bit and made a script that you can find on my site : http://www.sandgreen.dk/index.php?side=linux_wineasio

If I run xt2.2 from the terminal I get this :
cannot read response from jack server (No such file or directory)

My setup/audio-tab says JACK audio, but I have no in or out and it doesnt show in qjackctl.

But as I mentioned, I'm mostly interested in running through wine so I can use my win-vsti, just thought the two errors might be related, and maybe if I could fix one...

hey sandsound :) have you tried compiling the newest dev version of wine? i know sometimes the ubuntu repos can be a version behind...and does the terminal give you any errors?

(im not with a linux computer atm but that mayh help sorry if you have tried these things)
i am me and i am free...k thx bai

thats why there should be an updated sticky...new version of wineasio and ubuntu can change things completely.
btw did u disable that gnome audio crap they put into ubuntu? dont remember wat its called....but i read it interferes with alsa, wine, aineasio etc.

I always disable Pulseaudio, it's the first thing I do when I install :-)

I did however update my Jack to 0.116.1 following this guide :
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1018236
Don't see that this could cause this problem ? after all nov. 14 beta works fine, both with wine and native.

Isn't the latest wine from wine-repros enough ?
it's 1.1.12 btw.

Post

it probably is enough, i just thought that may be an option, not sure what is the issue there. last wine i played with was 1.1.11 and the betas worked fine then too. :shrugs:
my new linux computer is no in action while i wait on a new sound card. hopefully there is a new beta by then with dual core support ...

and to _strarcraft_, there isnt a sticky and there SHOULDNT be a sticky imo for wineasio, its not officially supported and i sure as hell dont feel like keeping it up given the fact that xt2 is not quite 100 percent usable for my specific needs, no matter how your running it. and even since the guide i wrote, like sandy said the process is MUCH easier...

I also have a problem here with XT + WineASIO:
XT-2.5 crashes after one second of recording audio, and displays
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000034 at address 0x7ef8d917 (thread 001b), starting debugger...
wineserver crashed, please enable coredumps (ulimit -c unlimited) and restart.

Gentoo system
Wine version: 1.1.12
WineASIO: 0.7.3

I do not have this problem with XT-june-beta, but I had it with the latest beta ...

By the way, has any of you experienced with Renoise via WineASIO ? The demo version is Direct-X only ...

hey klawzz, havent tried renoise but i know there is a newer version of wineasio (7.4)

perhaps try that, im not sure if thats Sandy's problem as well, but it is much improved, even giving proper names to whatever is using the driver within jack

Really ? Do you know where to download it from ?

Version 7.3 lives at http://people.jacklab.net/drumfix/
and is the latest version there.

Cheers.
