Yeah... I just got a Nocturn and all I want from Automap is to be able to drag and drop controller assignments - and Novation want $30US for that? I have no other need for the Nocturn except for controlling some plugins - My Euphonix gear does it all... and I don't have to pay for a minor/major feature update!

I don't think you have to pay for that functionality. Just download automap 3 STANDARD.

Automap 3 PRO is for users that want to use more than one novation controller at once together.

Hey...

In order to have the drag and drop functionality, you have to buy the Pro version! I have no need for any other Novation controllers - so I find this a bit rich seeing as it is only a small yet useful update - one which should have been part of the Standard version, in my opinion, as it's been a glaring omission of the most basic functionality with Automap controller assignment!

yep, a rip-off considering it's a small update that should have been there ages ago... I mean, i always thought about getting myself one or two novation controllers and always wondered if automap worked with two controllers. only now do i find out that it didn't work... something they failed to make clear, imo...

which is weird actually, as you already paid more money to novation than the ones that only use one device of them. _you_ should recieve it free, and the _others_, that only have one small product of novation, should have to pay, if at all ... just imo, of course ...

I'm glad people are chiming in on this issue... hopefully Novation will see this and scrap their idea of a Standard/Pro version of Automap 3 and make it totally free, which it should be! I just don't see why Novation controller users should have to pay for a "BASIC" upgrade when they have already paid for the hardware. I think that it is a totally lousy business model, and stinks of greed, when all they are doing is introducing "BASIC" functionality which should have been there in the first place... The $30US they are asking for, which will enable the drag and drop functionality, is almost 1/3 of the price I actually paid for the Nocturn! That's ridiculous...

Automap is why we payed more for these products than the market competitors in the first place, now they're holding back features for more money.

Agreed.

Overall automap hasn't turned out to be that great anyway... I've found myself wishing I went with a cheaper keyboard and kore 2 instead of the SL61... But hey, overall it's definitely not a bad keyboard for the price even if you don't use automap... I think I might go the whole APC40 route when I switch from logic to live 8.

One of the reasons I want/need the drag and drop functionality is that Automap 2 and 3 map knob controllers onto the buttons of my Nocturn and visa versa! Real helpful...

I completely agree with this. It's a rip-off. Again another example of a company getting greedy. Time to choose some other rivaling company for my next controller purchase.

Man oh man, am I looking forward to this. No news though on the release?
I see some people aren't happy about the price for Pro. Personally, it's $30 for a completely revolutionary product. I'm sure it took many months (at least) of research and development money, and is a product that integrates hardware controllers and software like never before. Again, it's only $30. Is that a lot? Really? Are there are a lot of 13 year school kids with no allowance trying to get their hands on it?

As far as the ideological argument on Novation ripping people off, how is this any different than an upgrade to your favorite DAW? Also, would you rather Novation roll out new controllers with Automap 3, rendering the older hardware obsolete?

$30 guys!

It's very easy to quickly map controllers with the existing Automap, assigning parameters using 'Learn' and saving them in Nocturn as the default mappings for future use. You already have what you seek. Just spend some time with the videos Novation have up on Youtube.

Drag and Drop is very nice indeed, but it's not gonna hold you back if you are serious about learning the system. Also keep in mind that Automap is an innovation, and is in a constant state of improvement. In order to get to Automap 3, you had to have V1 and then 2. Compounding advancement in other words, where one new idea triggers another. Automap 1 was never broken or buggy or incomplete. It got the job done baby! You make it sound like Novation put out a crippled product and are now extorting $30 for the 'real thing'.

If we look at it reasonably, we see that Novation have offered the update in two flavors: Standard and Pro.

Take a look at what Standard does:

* Automatic plug-in mapping - All automatable VST, AU or Pro Tools format plug-ins need just be opened in any DAW for instant control.
* Heads-up transparent GUI - Automap provides a transparent control map across your computer screen, so you can see at a glance how every parameter is assigned.
* Learn and Clear modes - Make and delete assignments directly from your computer screen using lightning-fast click and touch facilities!
* Automatic Mixer control - A growing number of supported DAWs allow comprehensive control of the mixer via the Automap software. (Non-supported DAWs can be controlled using separate dedicated Automap systems)
* Plug-in and Mixer map browsing facility - Get to the right software fast! Control maps are automatically placed into categories depending on type (instrument, mixer etc.) for quick and easy browsing and selection with hardware or software.
* MIDI integration - 16 standard MIDI control maps (totalling 2048 separate controls) can be created to be used alongside plug-in and mixer maps - ideal for software with a MIDI learn facility.

What's new with Automap 3?

* HUI - HUI control is now fully implemented within Automap, allowing control over all HUI compatible DAW's including Logic, Pro Tools and Digital Performer.
* Start-up Screen - A new start-up screen now makes managing your plug-ins and setting up your DAW even easier. It also gives you one-click access to online support, tutorials and the latest updates.

This is even before you get to 'Drag and Drop'. In other words, it's very nice to have but not something that renders your Nocturn useless if you don't have it. All it does, is give you multiple ways to map your plug-ins. Standard already gives you automatic mapping, HUI support, mixer support, new browser and GUI. If you feel you absolutely must have 'Drag and Drop', it's a very reasonable $30 and I have already clarified in my other post why I feel that is a fair price.

Basically, we have all this new stuff for free that improves upon a product that was quite revolutionary to begin with. Kudos to Novation!

Well, let's just say that there's a difference in my attitude right now towards Spectrasonics (free update to Omnisphere of 2000 patches and 2gigs of data - which I'm sure also took a lot of development time), and Novation ($30 for an update which doesn't seem particularly innovative - drag & drop requires $30???)...

No, it's not tons of cash, but they're not endearing themselves to me...
