I just bought Miroslav Philharmonik and now I need to pick which product I get for free from the IK buy 1 get 1 free deal.
ST2 XL or SS2?
Which one has the better sound quality especially in the electric guitar catagory?
Thanks

Hi majorpain. I use all three, and like them all very much.
I would rate it a definate toss up.
I wouldn't base the decision on the guitar sounds in either set, because they both have some good offerings.
I would say generally, Sonik Synth 2's sounds are a little better overall, but Sampletank's engine is much more flexable. Sampletank allows you to import any Sampletank set, (including Miroslov, SS2, Sampletron, Samplemoog, and all the Capsules and Expansion Tanks), while SS2's GUI will only run SS2 sounds. This will give you the option to run Miroslov and the Sampletank Sounds together, and use sounds from both sets as one large library, You also have the option of expanding it with some of the other sets I mentioned. This not a small reason to recommend you go for Sampletank.
Both ST and SS offer a good selection of bread and butter sounds (piano's, organs, drums, bass, guitars, anything not a synth, etc), and some great vintage synth sounds, with Sampletank having more in the way of bread and butter sounds, and SS2 having more in the way of synths.
If you're really into vintage synths, I would go for SS2, but if you are looking at future expansion in the format, Sampletank will be a better choice.
Either one is good, and whichever one you choose as a freebie, you can't go wrong, IMHO.
Best wishes

Thanks for the advice.
I went with SS2.
It was a toss up, but I' ve spent enough money lately and don't plan on expanding anytime soon and SS2 seems to have a better reputation in terms of quality of sounds.

I really like SS2. For me, it is a great all around sample player. Nice piano, nice basses, nice drums, nice... everything.
