Any interesting Tools ideas?

Has anybody thought of any convenient uses for the recently-added Tools feature?

I have got Cantabile to load and dsplay a leadsheet corresponding to the MIDI file it's playing. The sheet displays on a secondary monitor above the keyboard where you can conveniently play from it. The argument "$(SelectedMediaFileTitle)".png is passed to a graphics viewer like Futurix Imager or the Fast Stone MaxView.

My leadsheet file has to be named exactly the same as the MIDI file that's loaded into Cantabile. All my leadsheets are saved in PNG format, so I just used that extension. If you have sheet music stored in different formats, it might be possible to use a wild card expression to allow any extension.

Maybe it's a bit early for this post, but you are asking...

I am writing a midi controller software intended to be operated by a secondary touchscreen for cantabile (and other midi controllable devices) myself... as I have found no maker addresses touchcontrol consequently... means nearly EVERYTHING is big enough to be operated by fingertouch.

The program is in a very early experimental state but among other things I can import cantabilelist files and automatically create touchfriendly tables from that to ramdom access and recall any session in cantabile by a fingertouch. I can also define flows through session lists... and there is more I intend to do.

It's a lot I want to try and it's nothing here even for alpha testers but if you are interested in that idea and concept feel free to contact me via PM.

Very ambitious and interesting! Makes me glad I asked, although I can't quite visualize the workings of your project.

Well, this is no specification just to give a basic "visual" idea you've asked for:

You load up my tool automatically with cantabile startup and it will load the current session list. Then you'll get autoamtically a operation panel on a second touchscreen showing sections and sessions within this section. Select any section and session within that, either randomly or flow style.

But how to make sections in cantabile session lists? Very easy, you define empty sessionlist entries without session assignments, these will be interpreted as labels for sections.

That's the basic idea.
