What I tend to do is solo each track one at a time and then adjust the frequency of the hi pass filter until I JUST hear it effect the sound. What you're doing is removing any signal below that frequency and therefore giving yourself more headroom. This will let you turn up the level on the master channel a bit before it starts to clip. It'll also make the whole mix sound a lot clearer.

It's usually on the channels EQ. Look at the low EQ and if it has an option for EQ type choose Hi Pass.

You're looking for a curve like the one in this picture :-

The frequency at the lower end can usually be adjusted and the entire curve will move left and right. I always do this by ear, so if i'm applying the filter to a kick drum i'll adjust the curve until I can hear it only just effecting the sound, not so much that the sound loses any punch though.

This works best on bass sounds but I usually apply it to all the tracks anyway.

In the OSCILATOR A1 and A2 boxes in Sylenth1 there are pan controls, make sure these are center, and that in the modulation window that no LFO is controlling the panning either. It could be the preset that was like this or that you accidentally clicked on one of the pan knobs.

I must have turned the pan with my midi controller keyboard with out realizing it.

The vocal sample took me a bit to warm up to, but hey, it works.

Yeah... the bass is rather wide. And to compound the problem, the right side has much more power than the left, which creates an uncomfortable imbalance (especially through headphones). Might want to narrow the separation a bit.

Other than that, pretty enjoyable stuff.

I dont think its the pan... if the sound is stereo, it would still feel wide... usually producers make the kicks and basses mono to give an extra punch to the song, and mainly because of phase issues when rendering in vinyl.. but since many use cd's or files these days, you dont have to worry about making the bass mono unless your song is going on vinyl or you want to give that extra punch.. is up to you.

I do these as a hobby and so it's nice not having to please anyone-audience-producer-manager etc etc

The vocal samples are chopped up in Live 7.

I wasn't too sure about it either (break her fingers off???- I think I liked the drama)-all in the name of fun.

Do you have Live? I couldn't live with out it! It's just so freaken cool/powerful.

One way is to cut up a pin pointed part of the sample into say 32nd or 32nd note triplets-copy and past over and over-then modulate-pan-experiment.

Or Live offers Sampler. That is great fun. Samples can be loaded in and there are many creative ways to f^%%k with samples???

I'm not very bright and relatively new to music tech-3-4 years.

I work very hard at it.

I hunt around on youtube for help.
