What I tend to do is solo each track one at a time and then adjust the frequency of the hi pass filter until I JUST hear it effect the sound. What you're doing is removing any signal below that frequency and therefore giving yourself more headroom. This will let you turn up the level on the master channel a bit before it starts to clip. It'll also make the whole mix sound a lot clearer.
